Hello!

We’ve got really steep stairs in our house and I want to put in baby gates at the top and bottom. Lots of those seem to always slip off, so I’m wondering if there are an other solutions?

  • my mum has a weird kitchen design were a baby gate wouldn’t fit so instead they used a side of a baby cot just attached some latches and drilled into the wall it worked fantastic when she did her home day care

  • With my eldest we had stairs going down from the main living area so my husband built a latchable gate at the top of the stairs. My husband one day left the gate open and my daughter tumbled down the stairs…very scary but thankfully she was fine.
With my youngest we had moved into a new house and had stairs going up from the main living area. We didnt bother with a gate as i was always able to keep an eye on her. She never ventured to the stairs and we never had an accident.

  • We’ve got the retractable ones too — they’re great! Also a soft landing if, like our two, your little one runs full pelt into it. We got ours from Big W.

  • We have a retractable one at the top of our stairs. It screws into the wall. When it’s open it’s quite unobtrusive and there is nothing to trip over either.

  • We nailed ours if you can do that it made me feel better knowing they weren’t going anywhere

  • we have baby gates on top and bottom of ours- never had a problem with them slipping? they are very sturdy
