Hello!

My daughter is 7 years old and mature as she is the eldest child. My partner wants to get her a little motorbike. I know she will be careful but I just don’t know if I should agree. When do you think is the right age?

  • Didn’t realise I’d already answered this question. :)

  • Personally I think seven is a little young. Hope it all worked out.

  • My youngest has been riding motor bikes since he was 4. We have all the safety gear, kill switches and training wheels on our bikes. If you take the proper precautions, buy a decent bike with age specific safety features then it’s a safe sport. My kids love it.

  • gosh we were riding at that age, with parents watching – encourage any outdoors play I say x

  • We bought my daughter a small motorbike last year & she is 9. She rides it fine. But of course, its always your call. I think its ok if you think she has the skills and can ride it. Just leave it in first gear and take her somewhere in wide open spaces

  • No you are not being over protective – she is too young – so many little ones die – listen to your heart.

  • Let her go for it,I bought my 7yr old boy a mini bike for our large backyard and yes his 2 sisters,8 and 9 yrs old also ride it,This is great for all of their confidences. You will be nervous first as they will be,have a wine and settle down in the yard to watch.Helmet and gloves at all times.Regards Glenn.

  • I have heard of a few too many kids killed on bikes, I would go with your gut instinct here, in saying that though, you cannot just say no to your husband, you may need to come up with a compromise on age. I would say 10 or so in my opinion. Sit down and have a chat with your husband.

  • My son was just a week past his 9th birthday when he was killed on his bike. He was an experienced bike rider but when the bike malfunctioned. So in my opinion 7 is a little too young. Even If she is mature, things happen. Just make sure she knows how to bail in case of an approaching crash and always always wear a helmet.

  • Follow your gut instinct.
If you feel that she’s ready to have a motorbike, then let her. If not, wait until she’s 10+ :)

  • I’m sure that you know you daughter best but if your husband thinks that she is ok and he and you are going to supervisor appropriately I’m sure its ok. I have friends who’s children that are younger have them

  • Not at all. If your gut tells you she’s too young then listen. There will be plenty of time for this kind of activity later.

  • I’m following this advice as my partner and his brother want my daughter to have a motorbike when she is older as she is only 1 1/2 Atm. I am a very hesitant person when it comes to this but I am thinking maybe it might be ok. So much advice for having a bike.

  • My friends eldest whom has just turned 6 has one and his little sister has a four wheeler she’s on four, I say when your ready maybe even try her on a four wheeler first.

  • When you feel comfortable, I’d say trial your nerves and borrow a friends and make sure you she is highly supervised and protected and go from there.
Don’t waste your money on buying one if she has to wait another few years before your more comfortable!

  • All I could say is you will know when is the right time, trust your instincts, but don’t hold her back because of your possible fears.. Not meaning that rudely.

  • I agree with you I would say in her teens, what does your daughter want

  • Hmm my sin will have a motor bike at a young age but don’t back down if you aren’t comfortable with it

  • The question is does she want to ride? My son nagged us from the age of 2 and got a bike when he was 3 nearly 4 and he loves it. He wanted it and asked for it so we knew it was right for him. I have been ok with him riding but will start to panic a bit if he starts racing etc…that scares me. If you feel that she wants thIs and is capable then go for it :)

  • Does your daughter want a motorbike? I too would be concerned, but make sure you get all the protective gear and the bike is the right size for her
