Hello!

I have being having almost constant headaches for almost 2 weeks now panadol and nurofen don’t seem to help. it was so painful on new years eve i ended up taking codeine which did help. (I cant take them all the time though as they are prescription only and we dont have many left)
They come and go a bit but I almost always have them. any tips that can help would be appreciated.

  • Have you seen your GP? And up your water intake

  • I hope you no longer suffer from your headaches ?!

  • There are many reasons why you can get headaches, like stress, wrong pillow, wrong posture or a more serious underlying medical cause. When over the counter medication doesn’t help, always visit the doctor for advice.

  • It could be stress but l would definitely visit a doctor.

  • When I get headaches I wrap an icepack in a facewasher or handtowel and hold it where the pain is. Mine is usually at my right temple on my forehead, but occasionally it is onthe left side. Sometimes one icepack partially melts then I get another one. If that and drinking water doesn’t start to work in 2 – 3 hours then I take painkillers. Don’t forget to eat something if taking anything containing aspirin which nurofen does. I find codeine upsets my stomach and causes constipation.

  • Maybe your pains from neck issues .We use lavender oil on my temples ,rub it on & it helps .

  • Lots of good advice here about diet, water, stress, posture, eyesight etc but definitely see your doctor to rule out anything more sinister. Good luck!

  • Sounds painful. Weird question but are you drinking plenty of fluids? I find that when a headache comes on, 2 big glasses of room temperature water straight away and this eases it. But yeah, go to the doctor and have it checked out. It could be an issue with your eyes, maybe glasses are required if you dont already wear them? Good luck.

  • I would advise you to keep track of what you are eating. It can be that certain types of food are the triggers. My sister in law suffers of headaches when she drinks red wine or eat cheese.

I suffered of a lot of headaches one year and a half ago. Because it was very unusual for me, I went to the GP. They found out I had Hashimoto thyroiditis. There can be different reasons indeed. Better to check it out!

  • Have you gone to your GP. Any unusual headaches shoudl always be checked out. If you are often headachy and have been checked out, asprin often works for me when panadol and nurofen don’t.

  • I also agree with comments made, there could be many reasons but first I would see the GP. Wishing you well.

  • Could be diet, too much of something and not enough of another thing. Also how you sleep or sit, vision, tension, not enough sleep. Have a relaxing day, go for a massage and see if that helps. Process of elimination is always good, but make sure you see a doctor!

  • Could be a multitude of reasons for the headache that only a professional consultation would be able to diagnose. I suffer from frequent headaches stemming from my neck, I recently purchased a memory foam pillow and have not had a headache since (touch wood)!!

  • Also; do you wear glasses or have any problems with vision? This can cause terrible headaches. Prescriptions for glasses need to be regularly reviewed as eyes/vision can deteriorate over time.

  • yes it could be the heat, hormones, vitamin deficiency, or postural, many reasons but your doctor will be able to pin point what is going on.

  • If the headaches keep persisting please go and seek medical help. I don’t want to scare you but it could be something that requires tests or treatment.

  • Headaches do not normally go on for such a long time, I suggest you see yr GP & discuss it with them. You have not mentioned your age, migraines/headaches can be caused by arthritis in the neck. I used to get them for weeks & nothing helped so now I have block injections to the neck once or twice a year. Weather, stress, environmental such as allergies or dust, not drinking enough fluids, the list is too long to consider so get it checked out by a doctor.

  • i heard that magnesium tablets can help .I hope they do.

  • go to the doctors if this is unusual, but sinus/hayfever has been particularly bad also hormonal changes can cause headaches that cannot be moved with pain killers

  • Have you had your eyes tested recently or maybe consider going to a chiropractor? Sometimes we carry issues with us that we are not aware of that cause headaches. Ive had headaches from eye strain and out of wack joints, once treated, headaches subsided. Also stress is a big factor, given we have just been through a busy time of year, you could be carrying alot of unrecognised stress but definelty seek some form of medical advice.
