I might upset a few people with some of this information but it’s what I have been told by medical professionals, including dieticians with a special interest in Diabetes etc. One State Diabetes Association does not recommend Stevia.
Some artificial sweeteners contain Aspartane. Aspartane has been proved to cause kidney damage – including cancer on the kidney. **Aspartane is used as a sweetener in Diet Cola Soft Drinks. One Oncologist in SA calls it black death.
Some vegetables naturally contain sugar. I suggest you do some research via google (dieticians have similar information sheets) There is good carbohydrates and bad ones. There are lists of vegetables, fruit and other food. Lists of food containing Protein, various vitamins etc. very interesting reading. Some information is US based. One thing I found out via a dietician is the USA uses chemicals in Margarine that are not used here. No doubt there is other variations. There is also lists of product – additives – colours, flavours etc. Numbers – what they are -what they are derived from and possible side effects. Not all people have any signs of any side effects or the substances absorbed in their body.

A handful of almonds (unsalted and natural) is wonderful for a satisfying snack with lots of health benefits, or just chop 0.5 banana, apple and few segments of orange with some Greek youghart. If you want to bake something try adapting recipes by using wholemeal flour (because it helps the body process and burn sugars) instead of white flour; use stevia instead of sugar (since it is a natural alternative with few calories and no blood spike and much sweeter); and use olive oil instead of margarine/butter (since most recipes, especially muffins, work fine with it).. and look for recipes that include grated vegetables – like carrots, beetroot, even zuchinni – since these can add bulk and sweetness and texture while giving valuable fibre.. A few oats in a baking recipe doesn’t go amiss either!

Use dates and honey as your sweeteners.
pumpkin cake, banana bread are good alternatives.

Im a fan of diet jelly with strawberries or apple slices with peanut butter. There’s a blog called Chocolate Covered Katie with amazing sugarfee/gluten free/vegan recipes!

Try toasted coconut chips. They are so tasty and healthy!

Strawberries dipped in dark chocolate. Let set and then enjoy. If you are very good about not too much chocolate this is a very healthy, yummy treat.

For after dinner while it is cold I am having a Jarrah 98% fat free hot chocolate, I think it is only 50 or something calories. It hits the spot and helps my chocolate fix!
