That is so young to have hip problems! My hubby had his 1st hip replacement at 56 yrs & has recently had his other hip replaced at 64 yrs. His family had a history of arthritis so it appears to be the luck of the genes. Thankfully he has fully recovered from the op & getting around more comfortably now.
Thank-you. I’ve just started another round of testing. Will be 10 days before I know anything. My surgeon told me about that research it looks promising!
My thoughts go out to you. Replacements should last 15 years and may need to be redone if you are young. But there is great Australian research pioneering the growth of cartilage. Trials are underway now for re-growing it in the knee. http://www.arthritisaustralia.com.au/index.php/clinical-trials.html So many people have problems and I think the auto-immune cases can be the hardest. Genetic pre-disposition combined with some trigger (so often people say in the diet) that keeps on setting off the damaging inflammatory reaction.
I’ve had so many tests done and they think I have some form of auto immune issue like arthritis or a biological weakness in cartilage as I’ve torn cartilage in many joints. All of my results are inconclusive, I have random health issues that come up they think is all related. I had to have my case reviewed by 30 specialists in the field but I couldn’t walk before they replaced it. I couldn’t weight bear at all on the leg and spent months trying injections, physio, different drugs and it was exhausting. There was either be in a wheel chair or the would allow a hip replacement. My surgeon was head of orthopaedics in 3 hospitals so he was selected to do it.. Luckily he was the same one who did my many other surgeries. It’s been a journey. But I wanted children. They said I couldn’t have them until the hip was replaced as i wouldn’t be able to carry them. Now I have 2 beautiful boys, delivered naturally! It was harder during pregnancy but yes now my other hip is getting to the point where some days I can’t weight bear and very hard being 27 and having your husband have to carry you to the couch etc. none the less that’s the cards I’ve been dealt with. Just have to get on with it. :/
my mum is 52, she has had her hip replacement last year and still on the slow bend of recovery. my mother fell back pulling a weed ( a weed?? can you believe it!!!) it got worst over time and didn’t do anything about it. 2years later, she had surgery to clean the hip bone and in between. still didn’t recover, went back to do it again and was fully inflamed, finally my mother had her hip replacement. the docs wouldn’t give my mother a hip replacement because of her age…so 4 years of pain and depression…she’s slowly on the mend. I hope u recover quickly as I know some people do but yes, ur young for that to be happening. must be a real injury you were going through??
