Hello!

Does anyone have a convertible car? I have always wanted one and looking at getting a new car. Can anyone tell me any pros or cons to having one and anything I need to look out for. Thanks

  • I’d be looking into the safety rating. Convertible cars may look sexy but as the roof line and side of the cars and not fixed and solid… I doubt they are safe. If a convertable car rolled I’d hate to see the outcome! Personally I would not put kids in one.

  • I would think it would be impossible to fit a baby capsule/carseat or a child’s booster seat correctly.
Not only that none of you need the grit etc that comes up off the road into your eyes, ears, mouth etc . Also they are normally a 2 door car, not 4. It is more difficult to get a baby/toddler in and out of a 2 door car. In an emergency you need good access to retrieve anybody in the back. In a road accident, it can mean the difference between life and death. (professional advice given to us).

  • my husband is trying to talk me into buying one.. I’ve never considered this before and after hearing about spiders I’m not very keen

  • One word…Spiders. My friend had one and always had spiders in her car. That’s probably just me…I’m terrified of them and never leave my sunroof open just in case!

  • It may be good if you have no kid yet. I don’t see a pro of having one.

  • MOM109463 that sounds really awful. I had never thought of kids escaping but it could happen. how scary for them.

  • I had one for a couple of years, pre-kids. It was one of those things that seems better than it actually is. I found I rarely drove ‘topless’ (ha ha). It was either too hot and I didn’t want to fry, too cold, didn’t want hair to be completely wind blown etc. It was fun while it lasted but definitely didn’t get the convertible value from it as I’d hoped. Good luck with the decision making!

  • I would suggest you get onto a convertible car forum and read reviews and pros and cons. Also; look into insurance and repair costs; always important when looking at buying a new car. Have fun researching! :)

  • I don’t have one, but always thought I would look good in one, but seriously my neighbours husband had one for a short time before they nearly lost one of their sons out of it, he was in his car seat but as every parent knows kids can escape and he did and they nearly lost him, they sold the vehicle the next week, so personally I would not have one with small children, teenagers maybe!!

  • it is up to you! i have seen people put their child in one but what i didn’t like was that their child’s car seat stuck out over the top of the bench seat and just looked super dangerous. it is up to you although i wouldn’t put my kids in it. If your kid’s are at school or this car is just for you, then go for it. They are pretty cool!
