Hello!

We have old floorboards that I don’t want to replace yet so we thought we’d sand and oil/stain/paint them ourselves.  Have you ever seen anyone paint their floors white? Got any other tips on DIY floors?  The current floors are really old cypress pine so lots of knots and imperfections to deal with. Thx in advance mums

  • i couldn’t imagine white on a floor not with my boys i so hope you went with a stain

  • Google white painted floorboards look at the images and see if you can live with that look.
I love it! Make sure the paint you use does not become too slippery.

  • Not sure that i would go white….would love to see a photo

  • Personally I would get the pros in to sand it, even if you still sealed it yourself. I would go with a nice stain or something with a glossy seal. White doesn’t stay white unless you have no children or animals.

  • Hope you managed to come to a decision :)

  • Definitely wouldn’t go white on the floor. It shows all dirt marks

  • White can be great for opening up and brightening a room.

  • Could be good to check out some diy websites. I’ve also seen some great blogs people have written while doing up their homes, they could help, to see what other people have done.

  • I have seen painted white and I like it, but you would have to use pretty strong paint to make sure it does not scuff off or can be washed.

  • I honestly haven’t seen white before.

  • You can paint if you [put a ton of lacquer over it and I mean a ton

  • Mitre 10 website has some good tips.

  • Don’t paint it chips to easy.. I would only stain but its bloody hard..

  • I’d imagine that paint would scratch and peel easily,..?

  • I would think that paint on the floor would peel and quickly look like they need to be done again.

  • Tiles are also a good floor, they are easier to clean and dont collect dust and with a mat down you get just as much warmth as carpet

  • I did floating floor boards in my place. They are reasonably prices and you can do them yourselves so no need for a tradie.

  • sand and stain would look lovely. Hire the equipment it’s not all that expensive. Its a job well worth doing.

  • but i would look more into it how long it will last and best ways to do it maybe have a look at bunnings also there are some good tips there and they will let you know what is good to use

  • i would check Youtube :) there would be a few on there
