It can often be more affordable to knock down and rebuild especially when the land is valuable and in a desired location and the cost or renovating is quite high. Many old homes can cost a lot to renovate especially when you have to update electrical and plumbing services. Kit homes are extraordinarily affordable these days too.

Yes we did and with the help of an excellent builder, it went very well. Research your builder and get someone with impeccable references. They might cost a bit more but so worth it and will cut out a lot of stress. Good luck!

WE are looking in to this so I’m keen to read any tips you might get too. Thanks for asking the question. I’ve had a few people I know do it and their biggest tip was to make sure you have someone to live that won’t drive you insane during the rebuild as it usually takes longer than expected

I suggest you contact your local council with proposed plans for a new house etc. before you start demolition. Most people use a Demolition / Salvage company. If there is any asbestos in the existing house or other buildings at all special contractors will have to do that part. I’m not sure who has to notify the appropriate Govt Dept. They will probably send somebody to check while it is being done. (one was demolished across the street from me and it had asbestos in it. Your surrounding neighbours should be notified before that is done.

I would love to be able to do a knock down and re build. Sadly, we are in a rental property and I don’t think the landlords would appreciate it too much
