Hello!

I noticed yesterday that my daughter’s bath toys have gone mouldy! Does anyone have recommendations on bath toys that don’t get mould?

  • I’ve found over the years and 5 babies later that any toys with a hole in them will go mouldy not matter what you do. Moisture will always get trapped. I used toys that don’t have anywhere that water can get trapped inside and make sure to take them out as soon as Bub is done and leave on the window to dry in the sun.

  • You can also order mould free batg toys by Biome

  • If you can keep the toys dry between baths, that helps. I periodically give her toys a bleach too, but I make sure I wash thoroughly after to make sure the bleach is gone.

  • I rinse the soaps off the toys then store them in a bath toy caddy. The toys that are designed to suck in water, I super glue the holes so no water can go in and can’t get mouldy. Makes them last so much longer. My child is 4.5 years and I’ve never had a problem with mouldy bath toys just by doing that.

  • The best thing to ensure they don’t go mouldy is to get them up off the floor of the shower and/or bath – you can get special bath baskets/bags that allow drainage. Ensure that any toys you buy don’t have holes in them as they can breed mould on the inside of the toys also! When we clean our shower and bath we give all toys a wipe over in cleaning vinegar just to be certain it doesnt grow.

  • I recommend the Green Toys brand for water play. They are dishwasher safe and made from recycled plastic. They have a bath / water range. Target sell them and usually a bit cheaper then Amazon.

  • Avoid the spray toys with the little holes in them.
Also highly recommend storing them in a basket with holes, or a net bag – we got ones from baby bunting that helps them to dry out after the bath.

  • We have tried everything too! We had the expensive no hole boutique ones and still go moldy so we have cheapies now mainly and throw them when they go black

  • Definitely hollow type toys, like stacking cups! As suggested already 🙂

  • Some stackable cups. Or letters and numbers which stick to the bath when wet.

  • I avoid toys with holes in them to let water in. Action play like cups and bowls are always good fun. I also like the ones that suction or hang on the side of the bath and you pour water on them to make the wheels spin.

  • I agree with another comment below. Use a hot glue gun to close up the holes, that way you can use the toys you already have bought.

  • Choosing bath toys wisely can assist with avoiding this issue.

  • Close the holes !
Using a hot glue gun, or a waterproof patch & seal adhesive, seal any holes you see in your baby’s bath toys. After waiting for the glue to dry completely, and making sure no water is able to enter into the toy, you’re good to go!

  • We always drain and dry all bath products immediately.

  • Sigh, l wish that were possible…

  • We use beach toys for the kids in the bath which you can pick up very cheap at places like kmart. We buy beach packs and let them get creative. Much easier to clean as there’s no tiny holes for water to get in to.
