  • Chopped fruit or small fruits like grapes & berries. Cheese slices or sticks. Our kids always loved tearing the slices up . Weet Bix Bites in Berry or Apricot flavoured straight out of the packet. The grand kids love these. Rice or Corn cakes with peanut butter or other spreads.

  • Keep it simple. Cheese and crackers is a good source of dairy and carbohydrate and there are a lot of healthier cracker options. Also, you could try some healthy snack balls – make your own or from the health food aisle. Also, check out the various healthy chips and things in the health section too. Natural yoghurt is great with some fruit/fruit juice to sweeten too.

  • I used to make wholemeal breakfast mini muffins and wholemeal pikelets with different fruits and whatever veggies I could sneak in, especially zucchini. They simple to make in larger quantities and freeze really well so you always have something on hand. Lately we’ve been doing a lot of fresh fruits, especially apples and a peanut butter dip or hommus and veggie sticks were always my daughters fav.

  • We like to refrain from processed foods and just chose simple, pure, no sugar added, fiber rich and protein rich foods. Certainly at the toddler age we stayed away from crackers and chippies too. My kids were always happy with a slice of multi seeded bread, a boiled egg, nuts, quakes, cherry tomatoes, fruits etc. We would bake wholemeal protein rich banana pancakes, zucchini pancakes, 3 ingredient banana cake (without any sugar), sweet potato brownie etc

  • Along with my suggestions below; we also purchased some fun cookbooks for children to use and to learn to cook. Of course we used the books to cook the meals with the children and the recipes are easy and fun and most importantly they are super yummy and tasty. It is always a good idea to hunt for recipe books for inspiration.

  • We always went with lots of finger foods because they are easy to pick up and easy to eat too. Dairy foods, fruit and vegetables, dips, crackers and other snack foods. The important thing was to present the food in a fun way. When food is colourful and looks like it is fun to eat it makes snack time fun!

  • I make low sugar carrot, apple and currant muffins. They take about 20 mins prep, 25 cook, and last 5 days in the fridge and can be frozen. To go with it I do picky bits toddler charcuterie. Cheese slices, rice cakes, slices cucumber, currants, cheerio cereal, strawbs and watermelon put on compartment plates so he can run back and forth as he pleases

  • I try to chop up fruit/veg at the beginning of the week and store them in containers. That’ way when im time poor during the week, its easy for me to just grab bits and pieces from the fridge and i dont then have to go for unhealthy snacks for the kids.

  • Cut up bits of fruit, cheese sticks or peices, veggie sticks and dips, home made quiche, peanut butter sandwiches, rice crackers. I’m trying to think of all the things we gave our kids at that age. Oh, definitely yoghurts, sometimes we would freeze them for frozen yoghurts. There’s some great recipes on this site aswell
