Hello!

Currently pregnant with my 4th baby, but it’s been a while between babies (8 years by the time this little one arrives). I feel like so much has changed in the time between having my 3rd and this one! (Some things haven’t really changed much too of course).
I won’t be able to stay home for as long with this one as I have with the others, and while I plan to still breastfeed, I also want to be able to try and pump for when I do have to go back to work.
There are so many different breast pumps out now! New brands I don’t know and hands free pumps and electric pumps that can charge with USB type charging so you’re not also plugged into a wall while pumping too.

What have others found to be the best pumps for them and why? Are the hands free pumps good, or are the “old-school” electric ones plugged into a wall still the best? Also does your chest size make a difference as to what works well?
(Even when I’m full of milk, I’m not very big!)

Thanks so much!

  • I have tried a few brands mentioned in the comments below and liked the Pigeon electric one the most. Very easy to use – much better than a hand pump.

  • I used Medela and love it! Haven’t tried other brands though

  • Like the comment below, I have the Medela solo electric pump. I find it works great, easy to clean and store. The price was great for us, I don’t need it too often currently so a double pump would have seemed wasteful.

  • I used the medela single electric Breast pump when I went back to work after my first baby. It was sufficient but time consuming and used all my breaks during the day. I also used the haakaa pump to use while feeding to catch my letdown and build up my freezer stash. After the birth of my littlest one I purchased a Mumilk electric hands free pump. I was sceptical but pleasantly surprised that it was stronger than the hospital grade pumps I’d hired from my midwife. I also love the Made to Milk lactation cookies and smoothie mixes. I used both when i retuned to work and had no issues.

  • I went with Tommee Tippee hand breast pump and it worked a treat! Was so easy to use I used it with both of my little ones!

  • Medela Freestyle – would recommend 1000%!
It is portable, lightweight, comfortable. It is quiet and has a great battery life. Spare parts are easy to come by (I haven’t needed any myself but looked into prior to purchasing).

  • i have used hospital rented ones Medela. such a good brand to invest. try in the hospital first, then it you like it then invest

  • Online forums for this topic and in this area might also be quite useful.

  • I was gifted (second hand) the Spectra S2+ Hospital Grade Double Electric Breast Pump. I’m so thankful for the gift as I didn’t have to shell out $300 on a breast pump. The pump is amazing, I purchased new accessories for myself for hygiene purposes. Where possible I try and get second hand, it saves money and helps the environment. The only thing that I didn’t love about the pump was that it wasn’t cordless. Also just a tip, measure your nipples and get the correct size, it makes such a difference. Good luck with your journey.

  • I always go to Choice and product reviews to research products. Good luck!

  • I use the spectra S1 – it worked great with boosting my milk supply – easy to use, pumps double although does lose suction when using both..I found it easier and quicker to pump single sided..
Is a bit bulky so suitable for staying put

  • Without any doubt Medela. Best pump either manual or electric.

  • I used Spectra Hospital grade pump.Had a great experience.Definitely recommend

  • I used the Medela Solo pump for my first – it’s a handheld one which you USB charge and, as much as I had to hold it, it’s one I got the most milk from compared to the hands-free one I got from eBay.

This time around, currently 20 weeks pregnant, I’ve been keeping my eyes on the Tyhan hands free.
It seems to have some amazing reviews and a lot of mums have been very positive when referring to it. Still doing my own research as well at this time, coz I do still have some time

  • A double and a holder bandeau

  • I liked the medela pump. Easy to use and clean

  • I was always happy with a simple hand pump.

  • Sorry I can’t advice you. I used a simple hand pump

  • Moderna do great obes and know some hospitals use these.
