Hello!

I’m not wanting to use lollies or chocolates for rewards. Could anyone suggest any other rewards that might work? I know my 2 1/2 year old is ready for toilet training and I just want to get some ideas from other mothers regarding rewarding my child. I refuse to use confectionery for rewards. Please help?

  • I used surprise eggs. Not the chocolate ones. Its a plastic egg with a toy and a sticker inside. It has candies too but I dont let her eat it. Its like a candy bracelet so she just wears it. Its only 2 dollars on cheap shops.=)

  • We rewarded my boy who was 2 at the time with loud cheering, clapping and high 5’s after he washed his hands. Worked a treat. His now 4 and still fully toilet trained :-)

  • I simply use stickers or colouring for a reward system and it works well.Do not use sweets has they will want it all the time specially when they can see it at the grocery stores and they will throw tantrums in getting it.

  • Each child is different. Some respond to positive reinforcement, others respond to food, toy or activity treats. A star chart would work well to reinforce good behaviour and ending up with a treat.

  • I have two special needs kids , Toilet training were hard but I did it. I do not have answer for this. I do believe that every kid is different with toilet training .When time is right , toilet training would be easy to do it.Do not stress for toilet training.

  • A rewards chart worked really well. They could collect a set number of rewards and exchange those for a book or a toy.

  • Stickers and a sticker book; place a sticker in the book as a reward; then a prize when the sticker book is full.

  • I did we used
20cents for oldest he liked to out coins in dads jar.
2nd son saultannas he loved them and it worked.
He was 4 before night nappies came off but (due to asthma and coughing at night while asleep was having a few accidents and he was waking up up set)

  • i have a friend who uses paddle pop sticks
every time they wee/poo on the toilet they get a paddle pop stick in a cup
at the end of the week if they have collected enough they get a present or get to do something they want to do etc

  • It has to be something they will work towards.
My daughter had trouble with the number 2s so we did a reward system.
So many got a book say 5. When we got to 15-20 then she got to choose a DVD to buy for our movie nights.
Constipation was causing her all sorts of problems and this seemed to work as it was something she was wanting as a reward.

  • Buy lots of colourful or character stickers or a new story book

  • Thankyou ladies and really got some great ideas from you all. I shall start my training this weekend.

  • I buy a set of little cars/dinosaurs/animals etc whatever they’re into and matching stickers. Minor reward use stickers, then when they’ve reached a goal eg 1 week of #1’s they get a car. Use a chart to keep track. So far mine have loved sticking on the stickers (or wearing them and helping me draw a pic/stamp) on the chart.

  • We helped potty train our granddaughter & we had a $5 note standing by a pot plant in the bathroom for her as her reward to do No 2 in the tot. She had hoped it was going to be for every time she went!

  • I used a sticker chart to reward my children. Then when it was all full I let them choose a toy from the shop.

  • Fancy special pens or pencils – get them keen and eager to collect all their favourite colours and a bonus new colouring book when they go a week without accidents

  • We used a book called Pirate Pete’s Potty with our son (there’s also a princess version). Whenever he sat down to try his potty skills he got to wear a pirate hat and a stick on moustache while we read the book to him and he pressed the button on it after each page. Then if he was still waiting we pulled out bubbles to blow! If he did something in the potty (or in the loo) he got a pirate sticker!

  • yeah i have a tick on the rewards chart

  • I use stickers then every time
