We still have the Toshiba but Dell is also good.

What laptop did you end up getting?

Any laptop you get now will probably have window 8 installed which is tricky for windows 7 users to get used to but a new user should be fine, just invest in Microsoft office, regardless of the laptop its got the best features. CHoose a reputable brand though, Acers, Toshibas, Asus all quality computers

Although tablets are more in routine for school goers but I think laptop would be a better option cause tablets are not convenient for assignments. I only have experience with hp and I am really satisfied with it. JB HiFi has good products with reasonable price.

I have heard most of the schools are moving to tablets now – I’d check what the school has as they would be a good indicator of what sort of thing you’d need.
