Hello!

Whilst looking for a new vacuum I’ve seen that they make in home carpet washing/cleaning machines. We have a young daughter who is constantly spilling things on our lounge room run and it would be great to clean it myself. I’ve tried the vanish and other sprays and powders and they did nothing for me. mI was wondering if anyone had one of the cleaner/washers? Are they worth the money? Which one do you have (brand etc)?

  • I have one and it doesn’t get out stains that have set in but it definitely makes my carpets seem fresher after I’ve used it and the water is always filthy!

  • You really should have your carpets cleaned every quater, my partner bought the home steam clean system from Godfreys, it is fantastic on our carpet.

  • my sis brought a Kirby but I didn’t think it did a very good job. team cleaning by a professional would be my choice

  • We live in a rental with really old light coloured carpet that pics up dirt and wear marks easy. Our solution is to just have them cleaned once a year properly by professionals rather than trying ourselves. Much easier 🙂

  • The Bissell Spot Cleaner is fantastic for spills etc but you might want a bigger one for doing the whole carpet area.

  • i’ve got a bissell spot cleaner one and now am saving to get one to do all of the carpet all of the time as I love it so much

  • Some great answers here, I have been thinking of purchasing one rather than hiring one.

  • I was told once by a guy that worked in a vacuum cleaner shop that you were better to buy a vacuum cleaner that just vacuums. If you want to shampoo you can rent the ones from the supermakerts but you shouldnt shampoo your carpets often as its really not good for them….so i was told.

  • there are some good comments here

  • I have been looking for an answer to this myself, come away confused when talking to the carpet salesmen, feel like its a con to get you to buy the more expensive ones, I need something I can use easily not too heavy!

  • Some good advice there below.

  • If a demo is available it might be worthwhile. My mum bought a fantastic vacuum\capert cleaner. But it is so difficult to use that its not worth it.

  • there are some fab ones out there…definitely worthwhile!

  • I have heard lots of good things about Bissell and I am hoping to get the money together to buy one myself. Good luck.

  • If you get a carpet cleaner make sure it has great suction otherwise they can leave a soggy carpet. The Bissel spot cleaner is good …apparently!

  • Im hesitant on carpet cleaners besides using Drytron which use a dry clean method. Rather than use water that makes the carpet soggy.

  • Fill us all in on what you decided… really interested on this one, I’m following it.

  • Get a professional in, buy a steam mop, buy a good normal vacuum (volta/dyson/mielle) get some mats that can be replaces easily.

  • I used to hire the Britex machines from the supermarkets but found they were just okay.We then brought a Bissell carpet cleaner and the outlay was very much worth it.

  • I have a Bisell (barrel type) and even though they are expensive they are really worth the money. The wet clean not only carpets but hard floors including wood. They are easy to use but can be just a bit heavy when full of cleaner. The bonus us when just using the normal vacuum cleaner they pull all the dirt into water so there is never any dust coming back out again and you can get all the spare parts you need. If the price is too high you can buy from TVSN who do part payments spread over months with no interest and only a $2.20 admin fee so the payments are spread over about 5 or 6 months. I wish these had been around when my kids (now adults) were young would have saved me so much scrubbing cream carpet with sard wonder soap bar (it worked anyhow). Good luck with what ever you end up buying. PS TVSN do a 30 day money back guarantee even if you use it…
