Hello!

My kids suffer terribly from insect bites, but I hate all the chemicals and nasties in the mainstream ones. Does anyone have an Australian made insect repellent that they LOVE? Thanks ladies!

  • I was hoping this would be about natural pest repellents for my veggie garden. Oops, so wrong :/

  • moogoo tail swat available from good chemists.
check their website for the nearest stockist. i use it on myself and my little one as we are allergic to mossies

  • I don’t know of any and the new parakito gives me a headache from the citronella

  • Have you tried using Para’Kito bands and tags?

  • I swear by Avon’s Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard, which contains Citronella oil. It’s non-greasy and also moisturized the skin, and boy does it work well to keep mozzies and other bugs away. To treat insect bites, I use McGloin’s Animine lotion, which contains lignocaine and calamine, is is brilliant for relieving the itch and any pain associated with insect bites.

  • hows is it all going

  • there are some good comments here

  • Did you try lavendar oil . . .

  • We use an EGO brand neem based repellent with lemon grass and lavender, however I still think dengue is more terrifying than aeroguragd so we do use both.

  • there is some excellent ideas here, will try some myself

  • lavendar oil is an idea.

  • these are some great suggestions :)

  • I love using Lavender oil or tea tree oil and Citronella Oil in spray bottles. I spray the kids socks and shoes when they are playing out side. Mozzies keep well away. I have planted quite a few Citronella Plant
(Pelargonium citrosum) in my garden. I crush the leaves to release the Citronella odour and mozzie keep away.
Planting these bushes near the kids sandpit and swings and play area’s may help.

  • Thank you so much ladies. The Ecokids one looks fabulous, but I’m going to try some of the other suggestions too. Very helpful!

  • There is a lady (Ms Whitehall) in Agnes Water (qld) who makes a natural one (called neem) & she will post to u. Also does a sandfly repellant, has lavender, citronella, aloe Vera. Only have phone details for her (not sure if she has a website but she really knew her stuff) 0427869639. My son suffers terribly with mossies & sand flies, was really happy with this product

  • Lavender oil or tea tree oil are excellent for insect bites.

  • I totally recommend bug a bug spray from ecokid organics. Website below
It is a plant based and certified organic bug spray and it smells not too bad. I spray my kids with it daily. I also recommend there daily hair tonic to repel lice and nits.

  • Mix up some baby oil, dettol and tea tree oil in a spray bottle! I am allergic to sand flies and really swell up. I find this mixture awesome. It works.

  • I dont have an answer as far as what you can use, but I know that should your children be bitten and come up in ugly red lumps, a small mix of carb soda and water to make a paste, and put on it, will take out the sting….
