  • They are more a few smaller little gifts as a way to say thanks. We’ve had some with a whole range of lollies – the kids love them. We’ve also had some with chips and others with toys, trinkets or stationary. It’s hard to please everyone and getting quality little gifts can add up very quickly.

  • Absolutely, though I find they ofte have more party favours or mini toys than Lollies nowadays.

  • Yes, we still do but sometimes add party favours in them, age suitable, so it is not all lollies. They are usually cheap at the dollar shops. I always try to be aware of any children with allergies too. You could add home cooked items to bulk it out a bit.

  • I think it is generally expected to do something. If you are worried about there being too many lollies, you could try small gifts. For my daughter’s birthday I did small items of jewellery, make up and hair things. With some things like that you can get them in larger packs and split them up to save on cost.

  • I’ve always done lolly bags (and so do most of the parents I know), but the thing is they’re not stuffed with lollies. I toss in half a dozen lollies, of course (wrapped ones, or mini share bars, or lollipops). But I also put in one or two small items that aren’t trash – like notebooks, pencils. Bought on special, these don’t cost a lot.

  • My girls still get them in junior years at primary school and I usually find that most still include lollies in it alongside either little bits and pieces! Its all in fun for them and the excitement of receiving a ‘party bag’ but once they come home, they dont even think twice about it

  • All the parties my daughter has been to has had some form of lolly bag. Most are your traditional lolly bag, some have only one or two lollies and more little toys, pencils, stickers etc. We have also been to a couple of parties where they did a pinata and every kid got a bag which they filled with lollies from that to take home. It’s definitely up to you whether you would like to do a lolly bag.

  • I love a lolly bag, we even do them for our grown up siblings gatherings haha. I find they maybe aren’t as filled to the brim as what I had as a kid. But I find them a really fun thing to incorporate into a party, all the kids absolutely love them

  • Some parents will like and some will not like party/lolly bags and certain party foods but ultimately it is not their birthday party! Other parents can make a choice about party/lolly bags and if their children can have them. We have always rationed the contents of lolly/party bags and never had any problems.

  • Everybody seems to love a party/lolly bag; both young and old and children and adults. Party/lolly bags are such fun to make up for parties. We have always gone with a selection of treats for these bags that can be eaten and also gifts that can be used for play and activities. Ultimately people can decide if they want the party/lolly bag or not.

  • I used to love making lolly bags with my birthday boy prior to their party. I always had the boys pick the lollies and a little toy or similar for their friends.

  • Lolly bags are a big thing here in WA and most parents give out a lolly bag at the end of a party. It doesn’t have to be much but I have found that kids do tend to expect them these days. Of course it is not compulsory to do this however it is lovely to see the joy that it brings kids to get a little something at the end of the party to look through.

  • I always did as it was my kids party. For those parents that dont like them its over to them to discuss it with their child and when they have their childs party they dont have to give out lolly bags. Even the young teens loved getting lolly bags. Always a hit.

  • I do because I LOVE to be nostalgic and give kids the experiences we had when we were kids, I find it’s something loved by the birthday child – to give a thank you for coming to my party. It’s kind and considerate and I think these are good values to teach your child.
