Hello!

I’d really love to know how you all spend Christmas Day? Is it always the same or do you change it up? Any traditions?

  • We would normally spend Christmas Day at my house with me doing all the cooking and hosting. Christmas Eve night would be at my husband’s family’s place. Being Polish, the tradition was Christmas Eve celebrations, no meat, just seafood and salads. Last year though, we spent Christmas Day at our beach holiday home down the South Coast. Just me, my husband and kids. It was really nice!

  • I’m loving hearing all these answers! It’s so fab to see all the different ways we celebrate! We wake up and do Santa pressies and have our own personal family time. Then we drive to our family for breakfast, followed by gifts and relaxation and then lunch and a swim. I think one of my favourite parts of Christmas is the quiet drive there listening to Christmas carols and seeing the kids look at what Santa brought. The roads are so quiet and peaceful and it’s just a moment of calm in between all the chaos

  • If we’re having an “at home” Christmas, which is what I always try for, then it’s pretty traditional. The kids drag us out of bed and are allowed to open Santa stockings. Then we have a fancy breakfast. Then we open other presents. Inevitably, silence then falls over the house as we all read our new books!

  • Christmas Day is generally always the same in our family. Presents in the morning and entrees, then we have a big lunch. After which we all relax and watch a movie in the air con. Last Christmas it was Christmas on 34th street. This year will be the same but we might go BBQ at the park and let the kids run around.

  • My whole world turned on its head when I was pregnant and now there’s just my son and I. He’s slept through the last two Christmas lunches, so still working it out! We do Santa at Nana’s in the morning, then this year I think we’ll visit two sets of friends for a hello.

  • I have my family over to mine and we do a brunch and then open presents. We don’t do anything really big just spend time together. Depending on the temp this year, we may go down to the beach later in the afternoon for a swim but i try not to pack too much into the day.

  • We always have it at our place or another family member’s. Everyone brings a plate, we all claim something from the list so no double ups. It’s always cold foods with a potato bake and sometimes a hot ham or pork but we try to keep it simple. I love having my siblings and their children and even their inlaws in the past.

  • This is a nightmare every year. My sisters don’t speak and won’t be in the same room. I am close to both. We can’t win, as someone is always missed off that we arent going to their house, and it’s heartbreaking for my elderly parents who just want all their family together once a year.

  • We are currently trying to nut this one out. We live hours away from both of our extended families, and that was much easier when we didn’t have a toddler to organize. Usually one of us siblings will host at our house and we do a pot luck style lunch. Our tradition is Secret Santa, which started as just us sibs but now includes all partners. As we have just purchased a house in our little beach town I hope that we’ll become the fun destination for future holidays
