  • Books. They are never too young to have plenty of books and to encourage them to read. Nothing better than cuddling up reading a book together. A dress up box is always great fun and gets littlies using their imaginations. Duplo is another that most kids love to get creative with.

  • How about some activities you can do together? Things like finger paints and play dough are great, or you could look at some water play type toys – perfect for the warm weather! Other than that, when my kids were young we asked people to put in for play equipment and that would cover Christmas and birthday for the more expensive items.

  • Think about buying some things that are a little too “old” for him, like books or slightly more sophisticated toys. He’ll be excited when he opens them, and excited again in six months when he rediscovers them. Items like paints and markers can be great for kids of this age and don’t have to be expensive.

  • It is always a good idea to stand back and take a look at what a child enjoys and engages with in the home and when out. This can assist with finding toys and activities that children enjoy. Children will be drawn to particular toys and activities and this will make the job of finding gifts easier.

  • What is he into at the moment? There are some toys you can buy of all kinds that come with screws and a toy screwdriver thats battery operated. My girls got a dog one last year but theres also cars, dinosaurs etc! They are really fun and great for fine motor skills.

  • My Grandson has just turned 2 and he loves to play with stickers, a bubble machine I bought him (a crab that moves and blows bubbles), musical board books, he loves his pop-up books and the peek-a-boo books with flaps to open, and the books with different textures inside to feel and he loves building blocks. Also, the little inside slide that he can go down and roll his toys down.

  • The best gift we bought for our toddler was a Loungey play couch. He is obsessed with running and jumping off it, we build forts and crawl through, he climbs up it, learnt how to roly poly off it, lately he’s been making it into a seesaw and having a blast. It has been an investment for us, and I definitely recommend getting a decent brand over the Kmart dupe.

  • This is such a delightful age for buying presents that encourage creative skills to flourish. There are plenty of arts and crafts activities and these can also be done together which is such fun. There are age appropriate books, puzzles and games that are great for building knowledge and skills and again they are a whole lot of fun.

  • Yes jigsaw’s ! I remember my son at age two did twelve jigsaws every morning before anyone else was up ! He was so good at it and now at age twenty he still loves doing jigsaws and is remarkable good at it. When you can create a love for jigsaw’s now it can become a great activity which also keeps them from their devices at a later age.

  • That is such a fun age!! Books, building blocks, chunky crayons and colouring books or soft balls, pool toys or even a shell or blow up toddler pool. At that age, I find that personality is coming out so can even find clothes, PJ’s or soft toys of their favourite characters can also be loved.

  • At that age I loved toys in the garden; a nice sturdy cubby house, a good swing set or a good sandpit that you can cover. A blow up toddler paddle pool for those hot summer days can be fun too. A children’s garden set id cute too if your boy is anything like my kids that age; they loved to help in the garden. Climbing foam blocks can be great too

  • There are so many things you could buy, what about a monster truck and a sand pit for the backyard or a balance bike or a chalk board with a white board on one side. Some shops give great ideas based on age to help you choose an age appropriate gift.

  • I agree with the poster below. You cant go wrong with the old time original toys like play doh, paints, books, jigsaws, etc
Crayola have bath paints which are a bit of fun and things like bubblebaths are always a hit with kids.
Things they need also like pjs, socks, new outfits

  • Awww! I love that age!!
Personally when my kids were that young I loved the whole imagination side of things… dress up costumes, books, pretend food to cook and cash register etc. I think you can never have enough arts and crafts either. Playdoh, pencils, drawing boards that magic erase without mess.
Hope you find some great stuff
