Hello!

Hi, there’s just my son and I and I’m wanting to create Christmas traditions that we can do every year. What can you suggest?

  • Do something that works for you – it shouldn’t be a tradition that should be tiring or feel like a chore as that would just set you up for failure. Instead you should think of something together that would make it feel more special. Even something as little as picking out a new ornament together each year to add to the tree

  • It is always a good idea to sit down as a family and have a talk about the fun things that make everyone happy at Christmas. It is a also a good idea to find out what things are not fun. We did this and ended up ditching some traditions and keeping others.

  • Not only do we do a photo with Santa each year, we also do some photos at home wearing Santa hats. I have more than one kid, and even the oldest (now 18) still loves this tradition – and I love the photos I’ve built up over the years. Making a gingerbread house is another family favorite. And we also like going out to look at Christmas lights in the couple of weeks leading up to Christams.

  • It all depends on your sons age ask him what he would like to do and get him involved with these traditions it makes it more exciting.

  • Got in early and placed an order for some matching Bluey Christmas PJs for the family. They are selling out pretty fast already, even some brands have sold out listed on presales. Its so corny but I love it

  • Putting up the tree and decorating together. Christmas baking. Seeing neighbourhood Christmas light displays. We have been doing matching PJs at Christmas, and once our toddler is big enough to understand we’ll do Christmas Eve movie nights with a classic Chrissy movie. There are some great suggestions others have posted, so many options

  • We do a combinations of different things at Christmas and have found it important to discover what works best for us and gives us joy. We have kept some traditions such as baking and cooking delicious Christmas foods. We have also added new foods into the Christmas mix. We have particular movies and music we enjoy listening to over Christmas. We keep the day relaxed and fun and stress free and importantly stick to a budget.

  • I LOVE Christmas! There is so many fun things you can do! Going out at night to look at the Christmas lights! Having a movie night with Christmas movies. Home alone is a classic. Decorate the house while playing Christmas music! Go out together and pick out a real Christmas tree to bring home and decorate: the smell is AMAZING! Yes it’s a little messy but it’s worth every bit!

  • There are of course a bunch of activities what you can do with your son together which make Christmas time a special time. For example; baking Xmas cookies together, decorating the tree together, watching Xmas light in the neighbourhood, watching Xmas movies together and we always love the Christmas markets very much
