Hello!

My tiles keep getting quite dirty and I have been using a grout cleaner for some time and it works but it feels like there must be better options and ways to clean grout than getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing them every few months. Does anyone have any tips they could share?

  • I use magic whites on grout. I find it the easiest way to get them clean and does not require a heap of chemicals or as much scrubbing. It is still pretty laboursome though. We also have a vacuum that mops once or twice a day so manages the amount of dust that gets into the grout lines.

  • I always use a mould spray like White King. I spray it on and leave it for at least half an hour, sometimes overnight. Then I just hose it off with the hand held shower nozzle. On occasion I may have to use a scrub brush on odd bits but not often.

  • Most of these replies are referring to shower tiles however I think you may mean floor tiles..? My house is all tile floor and they’re white and show every little mark 😫 my grout is dark brown and has been since we bought the house but I’ve been too scared to clean it properly as it’s missing and falling out in so many places. Following along for any hints or tips for floor tiles. I think I might be needing to regrout sooner rather than later 😫

  • Personally I don’t think dirt is the problem but the fact that the tiles and grout are often left wet causing mold which does look dirty. I really swear by using a window wiper on shower cabin and the tiles of walls and floor after each shower use. Prevention is the key !

  • I use peroxide and bicarbonate of soda. You just make a paste and put it on and leave it for a while and then give it a light brush and rinse off. It also works on mould. If you use bleach it smells and mould always comes back but with the hydrogen peroxide mixture it doesn’t. I also have one of those electric brushes that make cleaning a breeze.

  • Yes I agree with BellaB; I have a cleaner in the shower and everytime I’m taking a shower I scrub the tiles & grout of the walls & floor. It does make a massive difference and tou keep the build up of mold low that way. Also I have one of those window wipers in each showers so after the showers & the clean it can be wiped down and dried

  • Also, if scrubbing really is essential, and your kids are old enough, tell them to spend a minute or two scrubbing every time they’re in the shower (leave something like an old toothbrush in there). This works really well if you have multiple kids, because a couuple of minutes from each one adds up.

  • I always prefer to start with natural products and use baking soda and vinegar and good old scrub work. When that doesn’t work I sometimes use hydrogen peroxide or a diluted bleach product. However bleach can weaken discolour and damage the grout so it’s really not the best way to clean your grout and tiles with bleach

  • I have so much grout in my bathroom having small tiles right through. I let lots of sunlight into the room to dry the space, I regularly clean with ENJO cloths, a steam mop and sometimes use the Selly’s grout cleaner it is so good! Also forgot to add that I don’t scrub the grout with anything hard because grout is quite soft and will break away… you will need to have it redone earlier than needed if so. A soft microfiber cloth is good and getting on top of the grind early.. then it won’t keep coming back if you give it a few really good cleans. It’s a never ending job but I find this works great for our family of six using the space so often

  • Frequent cleaning and using a grout brush. I saw a picture on Reddit of someone using a broom designated for the shower. Sounds like an easier way to do it, but I don’t have anywhere to keep a bleached out broom. Best tool is investing in an electric scrubber brush, they take the grunt work out of it

  • The best suggestion I can make – and it’s not perfect – is to get a spray on grout cleaner, and spray the shower down every time you have a shower. NO need to scrub – but it should make it much easier when you do scrub. No promises, but it helps.
