  • First of all keep your water intake up !
When you add fibers you need to increase water too, otherwise it may have the opposite effect.
I prefer the use of seeds (such as chia seeds, ground lin-/flax seeds and sesame seeds) over any other remedy. Besides that ditch the processed foods (and choose for example seeded bread above white bread, whole grain products instead of white flower products) and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
For my youngest who has low muscle tone I use 1 scoop of Osmolax a day.

  • Deboarh.. I too take pain medication but I also take coloxyl with senna which was prescribed by my specialist as I have issues with my bowel (& bladder) and need the help.
Lots of fresh fruit helps – strawberries & kiwi fruit are a great natural laxative. If you like prunes they are great too, as is prune juice.

  • I had the same problem on another type of medication. I tried everything with no avail. THEN I tried Kellogs All Bran. MAGIC stuff haha Oh and lots of water, of course :)

  • i had to go on pain meds after a bad injury. the doctor made me buy the medication and metamucil as they said that i would get constipation! try it if you like but drink loads of water and don’t fight the urge if you have to go. Eat more fibre. Walks can help get everything moving along.

A friend who is a carer, said that the person that they look after gets bad constipation so they put vaseline around the bottom to help ease it out. They have also literally had to pull nuggets out as well to help them. Lol the duty of care hey.

  • Getting plenty of fibre can help, but you must ensure you up your water intake, otherwise it can cause or worsen constipation.

  • using probiotics have really helped my kids with their issues… We just use it for a few days and it seems to help clear them out… But i dont know if its a mind over matter thing for them as i tell them it will make them go and with in 12 hours they have cleared their blockage with little issues.

  • I found this information on foods that help http://www.medicinenet.com/top_foods_for_constipation_relief/page2.htm
Someone mentioned bananas – I heard it depends how ripe they are – can’t remember which way but I think the riper they are the more they help.
Fibre is a tough balance – you need it but too much can also have a negative affect.
    Water is very helpful.

  • Thanks for the great tips ,definitely great suggestions .Not something like to talk about but it’s a problem.

  • eat everything that has fiber, nuts , prunes etc and also eat lots of veges…. eat all this and you should be able to go to the toilet without a problem.. I hate the taste of the fiber that you buy in the cerial packets.

  • My brother suffered terrible constipation & used Movicol, it works wonders!
    I highly recommend it!
There’s also Fybogel Hi-Fibre Orange supplement sachets, I’ve heard that works brilliantly as well.
Olive oil – take 1 tablespoon in the morning (it works best on an empty stomach) you can add a little lemon juice for flavour.
Lemon drink – squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into a cup of warm water, sip or drink until completely finished.
Molasses – Consume 1 teaspoon of blackstrap molasses, you can add it to a cup of tea or warm water to dilute the taste.
Boost up on fibre – Beans, apricots, whole grain bread, berries, broccoli, plums, pears, apples, nuts & potatoes.
Flaxseed Oil – Mix 1 tablespoon of Flaxseed oil with 1 glass of orange juice, drink as needed but it give it up to 5 hours to take effect.
Epsom Salts – Dissolve 2 teaspoons of Epsom Salt in 1 cup of water or fruit juice & drink all of it. If no movement within 4 hours you may require a second dose. (Use only 1/2 teaspoon for children).
Prune Juice – drink 1 cup in the morning and 1 at night. It should start working within a few hours so let 1 glass pass through before attempting another or you may risk diarrhea. You could eat several prunes instead of drinking the juice if you prefer.
Yoghurt – 1-3 cups per day, eat 1 with breakfast and then on its own or with snacks throughout the day.
    Best of luck!

  • I find bananas have the opposite effect on me. They actually make me constipated.
Even if you eat plenty of high fibre food you have to drink of water to moisten/soften it.
Dates are good too. Some painkillers are worse for constipation than others, especially those containing codeine. Speak to your GP/qualified Pharmacist and ask if there is suitable painkiller alternatives. Some can cause stomach ulcers too. There is also 2 different types of fibre – soluble and insoluble. I can’t remember which type relieves constipation the best. There may be some answers in google search about fibre.

  • Eat fresh prunes and drink plenty of water and exercise helps to get your bowel moving.

  • lots of prune juice and exercise. hope it helps!

  • You need to eat wholemeal bread high fibre & increase your fibre amounts.

  • Pear juice, prunes, fibre and lots of water

  • I have this tea which I got from an Asian Grocery. It’s called slim tea. It has a laxative effect, but the benefits of tea.

  • Whenever i constipated, mum used to feed me bananas and prunes. Woukd unblock the bowels within 24 hours

  • Try increasing your water and fibre intake. Processed bran for breakfast is always good. Also, fruits like kiwi and apple can sometimes help, as can probiotic drinks like Valia.

  • Try eating one kiwi as soon as you wake up.

  • A natural alternative is prunes or prune juice as these will soften the stool.

Worst thing is feeling constipated, good luck.
