Hello!

This is a dumb question but I make a yum cottage pie and it ha half a cup of wine in it. I believe any alcohol evaporates during the cooking process but would you give it to baby or better to make a separate one?

  • I personally wouldn’t risk it. Alcohol can cause liver and kidney problems, which can become permanent damage -even organ failure. Some little ones don’t like cheese. I was against giving too much of it too young because of its fat content.
Strange thing is she seems to be able to digest it better in cooking than just eating a slice.

  • i wondered too does it really evaporate? If in doubt you could pull off a portion for them and then add the wine to your one and keep theirs seperate?

  • I too believe that the alcohol evaporates, but to be on the safe side I would probably substitute some stock for the alcohol.

  • If in doubt make seperate dishes.

  • I’d probably err on the side of safety, but the alcohol is supposed to evaporate.

  • You can cook without worrying. The alcohol evaporates indeed.

  • I have given my kids & grandkids casseroles or gravies as the alcohol is cooked out of it but never give them desserts such as trifle that has sherry in it, as that would be damaging to little ones.
