Hello!

We are going on a cruise with our family and grandkids over the new year. 10 nights. I’d love any suggestions or recommendations of what to take or do onboard. What would you say is a must have? (aged 10 & 8)

  • How fun! As stated already, power adapters are a must have. Especially the kind that have USB charging ports on them. You probably won’t have a lot of plugs in the room so you have to make the most of what you have. If anyone gets motion sickness I’d have some medication, moisturiser for the dryness from recirculated air, as well as chap stick. Lots of sunscreen and a big hat with a chin strap

  • That’s exciting! Have a great time! I hear most things are well and truly provided for so you just need your clothing, medications, quiet time activities such as books etc but really these cruises are so activity packed that I doubt you will ever really need anything! Sounds so fun!

  • There have been a number of articles and also forum questions on this site about cruises and it might be a good idea to do a search. I recall there being some great tips and answers about cruises. The answers covered different types of cruises and handy tips about so many aspects of cruising.

  • Enjoy your cruise! I havent been on one personally but i know people that have and have enjoyed everything about it. For kids, you could consider things that they can play with in the pool like sinkies etc that give them a bit more fun. Theres really no need to bring extra devices as there is always so much on the cruise you can do.

  • I’d suggest taking compatible power point adapters. There’s nothing worse than getting inside your cabin and needing to charge your iPhone and realise the power points are different. For children, I’d suggest a couple of their favourite books and a toy or 2, not too big though. Oh, you ginger bears for sea sickness for the kids, just in case.

  • From what I have heard, they have amazing kids programs on cruises. I would think that you should need very little. If it was my kids going, I would probably pack our Galaxy tablet with some movies that I know they will like downloaded. That way, when they are winding down at night, they will have something to do. I would also ensure I packed swimmers and warm clothes too in case of cooler weather at sea, which can happen any time of year.

  • Oh how lovely, I hope you have the most wonderful time. I would recommend taking some travel games, places like Kmart and Big W sell them, set a cards, some books for colouring, stickers etc – create each kid a little activity set with a few different things in it as well as some word search, maze games etc. If you have a portable electronic game like a Nintendo, I recommend taking that too.
