Hello!

Hi mums
Reaching out as I feel like my hair is so damaged post birth of my daughter 🙁

I’ve tried hair masks and “deep conditioning “ shampoos and nothing seems to work!

Open to suggestions

  • If you can afford a salon treatment, they can be very good. Otherwise, I guess I’d ask how long you’ve persisted for. A deep conditioning treatment or mask twice a week will work, but you need to give it a few weeks before you really start seeing an impact. Then you can drop back to once a week.

  • I did experience the same after my babies. Have you tried rosemary serum or something related with rosemary leaves? Also I m still using collagen tablets which suits me. Ask your GP. They may have some recommendations. You can take vitamin B12 supplements which helps to control hair loss. Consult this

  • I have finally decided to take the plunge and cut my lower back length hair to above my shoulders, I should have done it sooner. My hair took quite a while to recover after breast feeding, the sides are still a bit thinner than the back and I found I couldn’t permanently get on top of the dryness. It already feels so much healthier, and has been amazing in this weather. Definitely recommend a change of look if you’re ready

  • Have you talked to your doctor? It sounds silly, but if you still have a hormonal imbalance affecting your hair, they might be able to help you out. Similarly, a good hairdresser might have some suggestions. Just don’t take a supplement without talking to your doctor – my hairdresser accidentally recommended a supplement that could kill me (due to the medication I’m taking).

  • OMG, my hair. Post baby. Was awful! I was text book in that I had a huge healthy mane is hair during pregnancy and then so much fell out about 3 months after birth I had to can the plumber. The hair oil has been insane! So google rosemary hair washes if oil a problem, get a good haircut, it will grow back, don’t over wash… which is hard if it feels awful, so use a cap or headband or embrace the messy bun for awhile! Talk to your hairdresser and get some highlights put through if it feels right for you. And remember, it’s a season that will too pass!

  • Another thing I did when I had issues with my hair was to engage in a discussion with my hairdresser. She was extremely good in providing advice and suggestions for taking care of my hair. It did take time and patience and my hair improved. Good luck with finding some solutions.

  • There have been other posts over the past months and years about this topic. It is an issue that seems to have impacted a lot of mums. It might be a good idea to do a search on this site for the topic and read some of the helpful answers from the MoMs community.

  • Many congrats with the birth of your baby daughter !!
Some things I always think helps is wash your hair less often or avoid use of shampoo’s as it strips your have of the natural oils. Just rinse your hair with water and focus on hydrating your hair with a deep conditioner and a weekly hair mask (warmed coconut oil works too). Don’t style with heat and use luke warm or cold water instead of hot water to rinse your hair. A silk satin pillow case may also help.

  • I found it took my hair a while to recover post birth. It took ages for my baby hairs to be long enough to tie up with the rest. I use Kerastase hair oil which really improved how soft my hair felt. Aesop scalp pil before washing, and a quality shampoo and conditioner. I’ve also found improvement using a silk bonnet at night.

  • Back in the day we were told to brush our hair to spread natural oils through. I have no idea if this works but may be worth a try. I’d be googling super foods to eat for hair health. You body may be depleted of something after the pregnancy. There are also vitamins you can buy like “Hair, skin & Nails” that may help.

  • Oh so sorry to hear mumma! Having a baby can definitely take a toll on our body as so much of our nutrients is transferred onto baby, and continues to be when you choose to BF as well. I would suggest a healthy and rich diet to build up your nutrients again, take vitamins if you’re low and need supplementing and just give it time. Postpartum is hard!

  • Also diet can play a part in the health of hair and skin. I have been eating a lot of foods with healthy fats recently to help heal my gut and as a result my hair and skin has been looking soft and glowing. Try salmon, olive oil, nuts, avacado etc A good diet can work wonders

  • Aww sorry to hear this but congratulations on the birth of your daughter! If hair treatments etc aren’t working you could have a look into nutrient deficiencies etc it could be your low in vit d or b or something that’s causing your hair to be dry. Couldn’t hurt to check
