Hello!

My 2 (3 in September) year old is not yet toilet trained. I’m currently only working 1 day a week so have time to stay home with her for days and train her. She hasn’t really shown interest in toilet training yet. However my dilemma is that I am about to take on more hours at work where I will be working every second day and she will be attending daycare therefore I will not have as much time to train her. So should I attempt to put her in undies and train her before I start working more or just leave it till she’s definitely ready?? Any tips?

  • I would wait until she’s ready so it’s easier. Our 2.5 yr old just decided one day to use the potty that we had left in the room. We got crazy excited each time so then wanted to go and get a treat. She took two days to have no accidents

  • I wouldn’t force when she doesn’t show signs. However you can start with inviting her gently to use the toilet / potty without pressure. Just make it a big praise part when she sits on the potty even when doing nothing. You an also buy books and watch video’s on youtube kids on this theme, just as a step of preparation.

  • I would say if she is not showing signs, don’t worry about it. My (now 3.5 year old) I tried TT her at 2, 2.5 etc, and was annoyed and frustrated that she wasn’t getting it, that it was more detrimental to her than it was helping. Then just after she turned 3, she started to show signs etc, I got her, a potty that was on the ground, and had her trained in 2 days. We had an accident on the first day, and shes had 1 maybe 2 accidents since. Skip nappies. go straight into undies and jeans, as she will feel it, and understand the signs more. Good luck!

  • Try and train her over a week and see how she responds. If she has absolutely no interest then back off but if she does then keep going.

  • If she is not ready or not showing any interest i dont think it will work. You can try but dont expect to much

  • I’d just wait until she is ready. Sometimes if we push them and they aren’t ready they will regress anyway,

  • There is no timeframe, don’t stress. My girl is 2years and 10 months and fully toilet trained for the last month. But I followed her cue on when she was ready and interested hence why she got the hang of it within weeks. If you push for it when they aren’t ready, they can be put off or take them longer.

  • Don’t push! It can actually send them backwards. Let them guide you!

  • Leave it until she’s definitely ready. Daycare will know how to manage – it’s not a drama at all.
