  • For my sons first birthday i cut up a big 1 and put his photos on it

  • Colored baubles in different sized and shaped glass vases look effective and so cheap and easy !
Also decorate pineapple tops with small baubles an sit in a vase ! Voilá ! Table centerpiece !

  • Wreaths made from Christmas baubles stuck together. You can use ones that are broken or lost their string as long as the front is fine.
I also saw a good idea in the arts and craft section of this site on making window decorations with puff paint. Worth a look.

  • My girls made randomly sized stars from cardboard, covered them in silver foil and joined them together with tinsel. We have been hanging them now for years! The same ones. It is a tradition.

  • We used coloured icy pole sticks, Pom poms, and stick on gems to make stars and snow flakes to hang up last year. We used a bit of wool to hang them, and Pva glue to stick it a together. :)

  • Also; I like to recycle and reuse jars and fill them with pretty homemade Christmas treats – good to have on hand when visitors come over. A personal and inexpensive hack for gifts and they make the kitchen look pretty at Christmas time too.

  • A couple of tried and tested ideas – Multi coloured paper chains are cheap, fun and easy to make and everyone can get involved with making them and they look much nicer than the ones you buy at the shops. Pasta wreaths spray painted with gold are rather pretty too and look delightful on a front door and other doors.

  • With some black felt, red ribbon, felt tip pen, glue and battery operated tea lights – you can make cute hanging Snowmen faces – complete with glowing noses!
Snow spray will convert the plainest little Pine cone into a beautiful decoration n- just add a red ribbon and a bell.
Toilet roll cores or hand towel cores can be glued together to make an artistic honeycomb wreath and you can perch little bells, bows or other small items inside.
Cut green card stock into various size circles, then accordion-fold the paper to create the look of swagging evergreen boughs. Stack the folded rings and attach to a small wood dowel or cut log slice to easily whip up a whole forest of firs.
Create a warm and inviting entry for guests by filing mason jars with Epsom salt for a snowy, winter look, then add small votive candles and line the walkway leading to your front door.
Use wrapping paper to transform everyday items, like serving plates, a holiday makeover. Just cut the paper to size and use it to line the serve ware for a festive look on the fly.
Make a cute seaside style tree by gluing shells onto a cone-shaped foam form (readily available from Spotlight).
Make your own advent calendar using small gift boxes or takeaway boxes – available from all $2 stores extremely reasonably priced – buy plain ones and number them yourself or apply stickers and pictures. Great to fill with little novelties or stocking fillers!
Make a garland of pretty snowflakes and/or stars, cutting the shapes from card stock of different colours.

  • DIY Christmas cards. Christmas ink stamps, cards and envelopes from Kmart some craft paper, glue, sticky tape and of course a black felt tip pen to write your message inside.
I cut the stamps out and a green triangle shape (to make a Christmas tree) use some cotton balls for snow and some gem stones assorted sequins to decorate mycard.
