Hello!

Do you use tissues or handkerchiefs? I had someone challenge me over the use of tissues because of the impact on the environment. I use tissues and then dispose of them in the bin as I do not like the idea of germs being in a handkerchief and then using them again and again and having them in your pocket. I do not like the idea of washing them either. It does take water to wash them and this also has an impact on the environment. What are your thoughts?

  • I remember the old fashioned handkerchiefs ! They were used over and over again and dried up snot made it hard to clean; they sure needed a good soak before you would wash them. Tissues are far more hygienic and nowadays there are Eco friendly tissues on the market for those who want to make an environmental friendly choice

  • Tissues are far more hygienic and you can get easily Showing results for hygienic biodegradable tissues :)

  • I agree that tissues are more hygienic and washing hankies does also take up resources.

  • Tissues so they can be thrown out and you aren’t carrying germs around all day potentially infecting other things in you bag, pocket etc

  • I prefer tissues. The thought of using s handkerchief makes me feel sick. I don’t like the idea of using the hankerchief then putting it back in my pocket

  • I use tissues and so do my whole family

  • well tissues for sure. don’t waste them and you’ll be right lol. much better for hygiene purposes

  • I do use tissues as I think hankies are unhygenic.
I know they are washed but would you really want your washing in with your snot?

  • I am a germaphobe so tissues for me, use once then throw out.

  • I only use tissues as I find that you can use then dispose of the tissue , germs and all in the bin straight away… hankies just keep the germs in one place and as you are constantly using the same thing over and over again you just spread the germs

  • I go for tissues too!

  • I am with you coastalkaryn! The thought of a ‘yucky’ hanky in the pocket turns my ‘tummy’!

  • I use tissues, as mentioned for infection control. I have on rare occasions used a hankie at home only, simply when my nose was too sore for tissues.

  • Tissues. I think handkerchief’s are disgusting and a great way to spread germs.

  • Tissues l use and hankies are old school, like you l dispose of tissues once l use them!

  • tissues are so much more hygienic… sorry, I cannot contemplate environmental issues over a soggy goopy hanky in my bag or pocket LOL

  • Yep -mom71809 – this person is against disposable nappies and only uses cloth nappies! I agree – each to their own and there is no need to challenge over the use of tissues! Children are taught to use tissues and dispose of them in a bin and then wash their hands to combat germs. Tissues are useful in infection control.

  • i mainly use tissues as i think its healthier, but i do have a few hankies in the house for when the dreaded cold hits and we have run out of tissues.

  • I personally like tissues as its stops the spread of germs. Could you imagine what kids would do if they had hankies at school.

  • Tissuses! I have portable packets and boxes everywhere. Hankies are great for those that like to use them but not for me. Is this person also against disposable nappies? Each to their own!
