A vibrant soup that is oh so simple to make. Whip up a batch for a nutritious mid-week meal.
    Ingredients
    25g/1oz butter
2 banana shallots, peeled and finely chopped
    1 garlic clove, finely diced
    400g/14oz frozen peas
    350ml/12fl oz ham stock
    150ml/5fl oz double cream
salt and freshly ground black pepper
    125g/4½oz shredded ham hock
    4 tbsp crème fraîche
    small handful baby watercress
    small handful pea shoots
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    Preparation method
Heat a saucepan until hot. Add the butter, shallots and garlic and gently fry for two minutes, or until the shallots have softened. Add the peas and stock and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Cool slightly and then transfer to a blender. Add the cream and blend to a purée. Return the mixture to the saucepan to heat through, then season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
To serve, pour the soup into serving bowls and top with a spoonful of shredded ham and crème fraîche. Top with some baby watercress and pea shoots and finish with a drizzle of olive oil.

  • onion, carrot and celery sautéed lightly, add ham hocks and peas, stir, add water cover and let blurgle away til tea time

  • this is my families fav recipe:
1 ham hock and some vegetable stock, leave that in the slow cooker on low for a good 5-6 hours. put in a couple of cups of frozen peas for about 45 minutes (while the peas are in, take the hock out and the meat should slide off and be able to be shredded). then whizz it all together.
it is a bit trial and error, but good luck hun.

  • I do mine in the pressure cooker but am sure the ingredient would be the same
    1 bacon hock
    pk of yellow split peas
    2carrots grated 1 onion
I just first pressure cook the bacon hock for 20min then add the rest ingredientfor another 20min

  • Mine’s currently cooking & will be ready very soon. My favourite recipe is Curtis Stones which I just pop into slow cooker. I boil my water & heat up chicken stock so it cooks quickly i.e. it’s done in 4hrs

  • Hope it tastes great, we had it 2 nights ago with some warm crusty bread it really hit the spot!

  • Oh thankyou so much, will be trying this on the weekend.:)

  • I have a recipe for pea and ham soup but it doesn’t have exact measurements it’s been handed down from my mum.
    You’ll need:
1 ham hock – carved it up a little to help the flavors out
    200g roughly diced bacon
1-2 bay leafs – depending on size
half a bag of green split peas
half a bag of yellow split peas
    2 celery sticks – chopped
1 carrot – peeled and chopped
    water
    pepper to preferred taste

in our family we just throw it all in fill with water to desired level and slow cook away.

    I hope this helps
