  • I think they’re important for bubs to have.

  • Vitamin K was given and recommended fir my babies no issue. The hepatitis shots weren’t routinely given all those years ago

  • Some weeks ago I was just reading an interesting article about how oral vitamin K is superior above the vitamin K shot by the Healthy Home Economist. http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/oral-vitamin-k-better-vitamin-k-shot/

  • A baby whose blood is thin will bleed easily if he/she scratches him/herself and bruise easily too. It takes very little pressure on a baby’s skin to cause a bruise if there is an underlying problem at all. I strongly recommend it in case your baby has haemophilia at all. It causes bleeding in the bones and joints, is extremely painful and the patient later develops crippling arthritis.

  • i am pro. it is to help clotting factors esp that they dont develop proper clotting mechanisms until day 8.

  • I’m all for immunisations. Both of my children had both shots. Yes, there are always risks with anything, but to me, the pros outweighed the cons.

  • I didn’t have a problem with them. They’re all for the benefit of my baby, so that’s ok with me

  • For sure I am totally pro vaccinating!

  • If your doctor says they need it then they need it immunisations are extremely important

  • I am a firm believer in immunisations and have had all my kids done.
It not only cuts the chances of your kids catching the said diseases but it also can stop your child being a carrier and spreading it to others

  • i had these done for my babies and it was all good

  • I went with the recommendations… The medical team at the hospital who recommended it to me have not only have read the research, they have been taught what it means and seen the outcomes in practice.

  • I am also a mum to a premmie bub and a firm believer in immunisations. I don’t agree with the ‘herd immunity’ (where kids aren’t immunised as everyone around them is) as those kids are more likely to pick up something if they go overseas and bring it back. You will find arguements both for and against both of these and in my opinion, a small needle saves me a lot of worry and heartache if my kids were to pick up a disease because they weren’t immunised. The Vit K can be administered oraly instead but babies are more likely to spit that out so may not get the full dosage needed. As others have said, do your research and have a chat with you doc and midwife if you have any concerns. My nearly 11 year old had both done at birth and is fully immunised and she hasn’t had any reactions to any of hers. My 4 month old son is the same, had both at birth and is up to date with his immunisations and hasn’t had any reactions either :)

  • its recommend but totally up to you. i got my son done the day he was born.. had no side effects what so ever. your dr or midwife should supply you with information about it. it could be the best start for you littlebuddies immunity.

  • I did not give the kids hep b at birth but did give vit k.

  • Each to their own, But as you said – it is only a recommendation – I personally do not wish to have a needle put into my new born if it is not completely necessary..
Especially if it can have serious side effects..
I’d never heard of it until last week, and was merely asking to further my research & gather others opinions before I do make the decision..

  • Why would you even doubt it? These recommendations are here for a reason.

  • Thanks for the opinions ladies :) the hightened risk of developing childhood leukemia through the Vitamin K shot is what has me doubting.. Given the percentage risk of babies actually facing a brain bleed due to the lack of Vitamin K they have at birth. Will definitely continue my research..

  • I tend to trust current medical research, its the best we have at the time. I wouldn’t risk my child getting hep (or other childhood diseases for that matter) if they can be prevented. Vit K is very important after birth from what my doctor told me. I think if you have a good doctor, you need to trust them. If you can’t trust your doctor, find another one.

  • I refused the hep b at birth as I don’t think there is enough research yet. The vitamin k though has enough facts and figures to justify the shot..trust me do your research and make sure your happy
