Hello!

My 11 week old son doesn’t seem to like to part with wind all of a sudden. It doesn’t matter what I try he will only do a few burps and then that’s it.

I burp him for a minimum of 30 minutes after every feed. I’ve tried patting and rubbing, laying him on my legs on his belly and rubbing that way, bicycle legs, stretching him out, changing his nappy then coming back to it but nothing seems to work.

I’ve tried infants friend but now that we have used it a lot it doesn’t help at all.

He wriggles and screams in pain during the day and night. We only have a small house and I stay downstairs so I can try and let my parter and 1 year old sleep.

Nothing has changed in this time, he just seems to fight burping which in turn is affecting his sleep.

It is currently 145am and I’ve only had 15 minutes sleep since 10pm.

HELP!

  • I used to gently burp half way through a feed as well as at the end. That helped

  • My Dad was able to feel the little “bulge” in my tummy where the wind was positioned. He would

  • We had the same trouble at around 7 weeks with our little one.

Our doctor put us onto Bio Gaia which is a probiotic liquid form the chemist.

We pop it in her bottle once a day (usually at night) and it has made a massive difference. She now brings most of her wind up unassisted and has less reflux.

Also sometimes when she’s really bad a nice warm bath has helped!

Hope things get better for you and your little one x

  • Glad to hear the new teat is working wonders

  • I found that calm, steady rubbing his back helped – but we never had the kind of problem you’ve described.

  • oh sorry to hear your situation. Have you tried to support and sit your baby on your lap and sort of rotate baby?

  • Thank you for both your answers!

I just swapped him to a fast flowing teat and it’s like he’s a different baby! He just have been getting too much air whilst sucking super hard to get the milk out the bottle.

    Thank you again ladies!

My daughter suffered with wind but not like my son does.

I couldn’t even get him to swallow gripe water.

    Thank you again!

  • Oh darling you poor thing!! Have a look at why bub needs to burp not just how to make bub burp. Are they guzzling too much air? If breastfeeding try a different position if bottle feeding try a new teet (slowing the flow etc)

  • My daughter was the same. It could be worth talking to thw Dr or health nurse about potential causes for the painful wind. My daughter has it in response to food allergies and started at about that time due to a dairy allergy that ws passing through breast milk. It may also be too fast a flow either boob or bottle. But could be worth Checking it out.

I found that sitting her on my knees with her back against my tummy and supporting her head well while bouncing my knees up and down seemed to help bring some up as a burp. But the most effective thing for me was if she was thrashing about in pain and she did a little fart quickly Grabbing both legs and folding her knees into her stomach, like rolling in a ball, would force out a lot more wind and she would do a HUGE fart and would calm down for a while.

I never got around to trying it with my daughter but a few mums recommended gripe water to mW saying it worked way better than infants friend.

I know what your going through. It sucks and is super hard. Hang in there! I’m sure you will find something soon that helps.
