Hello!

I’m wondering if all women get a weak pelvic floor after childbirth or just some?

  • It is completely normal that during pregnancy and birth, the pelvic floor muscles become stretched and weakened. This is simply the body’s way of adapting and allowing for the baby to pass out of the vagina.

  • I’m guessing it depends on a range of factors including how the birth was, if you had a strong pelvic floor before children, if you did exercises regularly etc

  • I think like everything else, it just depends on the person. Mine was ok.

  • Most woman are affected to some extent, but you can minimise the impact with pelvic floor exercises.

  • I think it’s normal to experience weakening of the pelvic floor after child birth. Women who deliver by C-section often have fewer pelvic floor problems than women who have a vaginal birth, but they can develop abdominal issues. Since recovery time from a C-section is longer, these moms are restricted from lifting and some other activities for a longer period of time—which can result in weakened abs.

  • It’s certainly something that effects a lot of women. I would suggest being diligent with pelvic floor exercises. For me clinical pilates during and post pregnancy was a saviour.

  • Not if you have a c-section otherwise it is a recovery period for most and then it recovers.

  • I think every body experiences weakening of the pelvic floor after child birth, but some cases of an extremely weak pelvic floor are more than other’s due to various reasons. Normally everyone is advised these days to do pelvic floor exercises after child birth. I was even given a info sheet.
