Hello!

For the first time ever (new Principal) our k-12 school is running a year 6 Graduation. I find it a bit odd in a k-12 school, but can understand it in a dedicated primary school. Does your children’s school that has K-12 hold year 6 graduations? What do you think of them?

  • I think it certainly is the end of an era and worth celebrating

  • just about every school does – I think its strange that a K-12 school hasn’t done it before because going from year 6 to year 7 is a huge deal and most of them I know of do the year 6, year 10 and year 12 graduations. but i can also understand why they may not have before now. as long as it isn’t too extravegent and over the top, I think it is a great rite of passage for kids. a simple dinner and award is all that is needed (not hiring limos, and spending a small fortune on dresses/outfits)

  • I think it’s great. It gives the children something to look forward to and a nice way of marking a new era in their education.

  • Both my kids just had a gathering at the school which was nice . I think it depends on the Parents Committee if they vote on it and if they have enough funds. It was a nice gathering as some of them were not going to the same high schools so a bit of sad event for close mates .

  • well i guess that normal schools do it so why not, in these bigger schools.

  • I know kids in my area that are having a Year 6 graduation in their private school that is exactly a K to year 12 school.
For me, my daughter graduated last year from primary school (public) and they did a mixed graduation of Year 6 and 7.

  • Our local school has then because some of the kids leave to do high school in a different school, so it’s a farewell fir them
