Hello!

I often wonder how so many restaurants stay open and how so many people can afford to eat out. Even the average restaurant nowadays has main meals at $30.00 or over and deserts at around $12.00 – $14.00. Throw in some drinks, and it becomes an expensive night out. My family and I rarely eat out. How often to MoM members eat out?

  • Very rarely, we also get very rarely take-aways

  • We would eat out maybe once every 6 weeks. We always try to use the entertainment book which has often come in handy for 25% off or even one for one main meal.

  • Thank you for all the replies MoMs. Seems I’m not the only one who only eats out occasionally.

  • Not often because we can’t afford it either! It’s not so bad if you don’t have kids but I think it adds up quickly if you’re a frequent dinner out person. We tend to do it for special occasions only.

  • special occassions or birthdays. and yeah it can be pretty expensive

  • I’m the same. Last time we ate out, it was where my hubby works so we got massive discounts, practically for free! I also wonder about those that sit in pubs for hours and hours. When 1 drink costs nearly $10, they mustn’t have money for anything other then the pub!

  • It’s a bit of a relief to know that it’s not just me who finds eating out expensive and only for special occasions.

  • we eat out every few weeks but we have the luxury of my husband working as a head chef in a restaurant so we regularly get free meals or huge discounts. if he didn’t work there we would be lucky to go out once a month – particularly with the kids. It costs us over $30 even just for the cheaper take-away options and that isn’t getting what everyone really wants.

  • Is it expensive to eat out but nice to go out once in a while.

  • We go to local ‘good’ pubs – kids eat free, kids room, cheaper meals than restaurants and family friendly. Keep away from the pokies and it is a good priced night out. Read local paper for deals x

  • We only eat out for family birthdays and special occasions. It is so expensive

  • Very rarely these days, and usually at family friendly venues. I often have been disappointed with what I have been given for my money, and walk away with my expectations let down and my wallet a bit more empty.

  • We used to eat out a lot, maybe once a week, but now things are so much more expensive, we rarely eat out. Can’t remember the last time we went out! 🙁

  • Not very often generally on special occasions as I cant afford to! Went out for dinner on the weekend and a piece of cake was $9!!

  • Not very often but when we do its to a family friendly place/pub with a kids area. They usually have a kids meal for $10 to12 for a drink main and a dessert. And a chioce between a express main meal menu for about 15 to 20 for adults. They also have expensive options but i dont buy them.

  • We got to restaurants where meals can be shared – Turkish, Chinese, Thai and similar foods. This keeps the cost down.

  • Maybe once or twice a year for our birthdays. It os SO expensive to eat out! I’d rather go for a coffee and a slice of cake.

  • Alot of places have lunch deals with a glass of wine or Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday dinner deals that are reasonable!

  • Check out scoopons, you can get restaurant deals like $35 for 2 people. That being said we don’t eat out often

  • Wew eat out once a fortnight but at the moment it is just my husband and I. Once our bub comes along we will need to budget.
