Hello!

I’m looking into putting my daughter into some sort of activity/play. What do you currently have or have you had your children in at approx the same age? I’ve been advised to wait a couple of years for swimming classes, and am considering a sort of dance play group. She currently does playgroup on Wednesdays and goes to childcare on Fridays. As she is an only child, I’d like her to have more interaction with other kids. Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

  • I can’t see why you need to delay swimming lessons, they do them from babies up now. Dance classes are great, my daughter loved them. She also had a lot of fun doing karate, and it’s a handy skill to have for protection

  • I’ve heard gymbaroo is good.

  • My daughter did dance, loved it. And toddler little athletics, loved that too

  • there are some good comments here

  • There are some useful ideas here… ..

  • Hope some of the suggestions below have helped

  • My 2 year old does kindergym, swimming, and playgroups :)

  • local library activities can be a lot of fun

  • Hope some of the suggestions below have helped.

  • i hope its going well :)

  • swimming – earlier you start the better. Parks, library

  • I take my little boy to story time at the local library. I’m currently investigating play groups or other activities for him. Hope u find something

  • friends at a park is always good and can be done anytime and day

  • Hope you find some good suggestions here

  • Swimming Pools, Mother group play dates, visiting and playing at the park etc.

  • the local library run programmes, also dancing

  • Unless she has some medical issues I don’t see why she couldn’t learn to swim. The earlier the better if you ask me. I would look around for other local playgroups or mothers groups. Supermarkets and councils often have things advertised. Also just going to the play grounds is a great way to met others. Dance play group would be fine too but if she is going to playgroup and childcare two times a week that is enough for her to be able to learn social skills. Relax.

  • Check with your local council or community center to see what they have going on.
but…just remember that shes only two and so dont make her too busy…im sure she would just love some time hanging out with Mum also.

  • Good to see we’re all reading & answering the question that was asked! For reasons which are none of our business, this mum has asked for NON swimming ideas, yet everyone keeps suggesting swimming…… People write to this page for advice, but if this was my question I’d be feeling like I was an inadequate mother OR that everyone who has responded & suggested swimming, doesn’t actually understand the question that was asked……
Activities that aren’t swimming related: dancing, art classes, music interaction, gymbaroo. There’s heaps of things out there for kids to do that aren’t water related. Your local child health centre may have info & even ask at daycare.

  • Who advised to wait for swimming lessons? My daughter is 15 months and had been doing lessons since 6 months. She LOVES it.
