Hello!

would love to hear what everyone’s plans are around Father’s Day or for their special person this year?

Any advice on some great presents as well?

  • It gets harder and harder as they get older to find gifts that suit and we seem to end up buying for the sake of buying. My husband is a Grand Dad and has all he needs and buys his own digital books and music. We focus now on going out for a meal or a show.

  • I prefer to focus on connection and experiences rather than gifts. Going to their favourite place or getting the family interacting at a new skill is a great way to create memories. It is oriented the little things than create core memories and a double win if it includes laughter.

  • Darell Lea Dads bag is our fans go-to gift for the dads! That and a family BBQ

  • I will give my dad a visit with my kids and bring some lunch. He’s always hard to buy for. I think I might buy him some beer. He likes his beer o’clock beer.

  • Fathers Day I don’t celebrate since my Dad passed away a few years ago now. There is just so much advertising and do this for dad or do that for dad it makes me so Sad to think that I cant celebrate this special day with him anymore. Plus its just too commercialised now which is also off putting

  • In addition to my comments about Father’s Day below; we also keep gift giving for everyone to a minimum because it is about spending time to together as a family and not about spending large amounts of money on gifts. We also keep the food budget to a minimum as well and keep all food easy and fuss free.

  • Some really insightful replies on this question! Everytime it comes around to this time of year, i just feel exhausted thinking about it. I wish it was just a day to celebrate as a family for us, but then it becomes about taking the father in law out for lunch or dinner etc and everyone else. Its definitely tiresome!

  • It’s getting harder each year as the family grows and having not just my dad but my husband and my sisters husbands and their extended families to think about. It gets exhausting, I feel the meaning of Father’s Day and Mother’s Day has been lost and it’s all about gift giving and the perfect outing. It should be interment and celebrated everyday.

  • We will do a combination of activities for Father’s Day. We will spend some time outside and we will also spend some time inside. We will spend some time outside in nature and enjoy the outdoors. We will then enjoy a sit down inside lunch, followed by a relaxing afternoon at home. We keep Father’s Day pretty low key and relaxed.

  • We usually do a family picnic, for grandfathers we just get a few favourite treats (they already have everything the want) and for dad we usually get something needed, something tasty and something fun. So likely undies, chocolates and something from Bunnings.
We try not to go overboard with the spending as we don’t want to teach our kids to waste money too excessively

  • I think experiences are the best presents or things that are disposable like chocolates or special treats. Otherwise, you can end up with too much clutter. My hubby generally always appreciates a brekky in bed that I help the kids make and I am thinking we may see about going out fishing. BBQs are always fun too.

  • Now that the weather is warming up I’m planning a cute little park, beach picnic day. Something chill and easy so they can play together. I’m super corny and love matchy matchy things. Last year I bought matching skate style shirts and a pair of business socks with bubs face all over them. This year I bought matching short sleeve button ups from Olas Supply Co, matching boardies from big w, and a cute bluey book they can read together. The shirts are fab, lovely quality and a fun print. Definitely recommend Olas

  • We pack a picnic for Fathers Day lunch packed with lots of bread rolls where we can put our own fillings in. Dad drives so where ever he stops that’s where we will enjoy the picnic. The mountains to the sea or even the local park. Just so long as we are all together. As the kids are older we do like National Parks as we can have a bush walk or a good fishing spot is fun too!

  • Good presents are always tricky. I always gave my kids at primary school some money to spend at the fathers day stall and they came home with the most hilarious presents which certainly brought a smile on our faces. I always like to gift an experience for us to do together as a family
