Sorry to hear, that’s not a nice start and a burden on your family (especially when now your 5month old is sick as well). Kids at Kindy and preschool always pick up easily what goes around 🙁

Foot and Mouth can be highly contagious. The location should be thoroughly cleaned, surfaces cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant. Anybody with it should wear gloves, not come into contact with food preparation, wear a mask so they don’t breathe on other people, and clothing. bedding etc. washed in antibacterial product. This is advice given by Health Dept. to a person who contracted the diease. It is contagious until any blisters that may appear have healed up completely. Even worse our friend was diagnosed during a heatwave, their airconditioning “died” and it was hot humid weather. Gloves, regardless of the weather make hands very sweaty and sore. They took longer to not feel sore than other sections of his body which were effected. He didn’t have it in his mouth but on his feet.

I think they can pick up a lot of things when they are at kindy as well, and then the whole family gets sick. Its a cycle that goes round!

id he go to day care ? my boys do and they are always sick!

I was told to expect that my toddler will be sick for her first year at daycare. She hasn’t been sick non stop but she’s picked up a bad cold and she’s currently at home with her second dose of Hand Foot and Mouth! Unfortunately it’s to be expected when there are lots of little people all together, all day, every day, they will share the nasties around.

Kids come home with all sorts of germs and viruses from child care. It will take him a few months to build up his immune system and he will get better. However, in saying that, my friend withdrew her son from childcare because he was so sick he started losing weight. So it’s really Up to your individual case.

I would definitely find a way of improving your son’s immune system. I would be really concerned if he still has it from his first day at Kindy and has shown no improvement at any stage. Is he a “fussy” eater and may be missing out on some vitamins or minerals. A friend’s baby daughter had similar symptoms and she took her to the Dr. twice. A few months later she was sick again with what developed into what they thought could be a chest infection. When it didn’t clear with treatment the Dr. ordered chest X-rays. They revealed that she had had pnheumonia a few months before.If your baby develops a bad cough I wouldn’t delay taking him to the Dr. asap. One of my work colleagues has two young boys. When the youngest was only a few months old he caught what they thought was a common cold from his older brother too. The baby got a really bad cough and the Mum took him to the Dr. He had to go to hospital and was there for 3 days as he had bronchialitis.

I know when my 1st started at Kindy it took him a while to get used to the ‘germs’ the good thing is hopefully you won’t get as much one he is in school as he has already been exposed to them.

My daughter had 6 colds, croup and tonsilitis in her first year – no daycare, not going out at night, always dressed warmly etc etc. Now at daycare she’s had tonsilitis twice and a few viruses. Some kids get sick but my GP said expect them to be once they are around other kids, ie either now or when they start school. We’ve had plenty of whole family sicknesses too. It’s just a tough time at this age but if your gut says there’s something going on at the kindy maybe look into it and talk to the teachers.

They do pick up a lot of things when they are at kindy. Have you got him on a kid’s probiotic? That might help boost his immune system. If it continues I would get him checked out but at the moment it sounds like his body is just getting used to all the new germs.
