Hello!

I’ve got about one month left of EBM in my freezer before I need to switch to formula for my 8 month old. There are just so many formula options out there I don’t know where to start.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciate.
Thank you

  • Aptamil gold was recommended by our hospital and paed. All three kids had it without issue.

  • The hospital recommended NAN when I had my first

  • We use nan optipro and seems to be taken well by bub so far. It is also the same one they use and recommended in the hospital at birth.

  • Honestly I think it’s trial and error. Hopefully it will be easy because your bub is a little older.

  • Honestly you need to find what works for your little one. Some find Nan comfort good, and others find karicare. I’d recommend buying sample sachets first

  • We used Nan gold with our first as that was what the hospital was using.
With our second we used S26 as that was what the hospital was using during the time (apparently they switch between the two and use whatever one is delivered to them). I tried to put number 2 on Nan Gold as well so I wouldn’t have to buy two separate formulas but unfortunately it gave him diarrhea so we had to switch back.

  • It would be a good idea to see the maternal health nurse or your Dr, as they should have the correct information to give you.

  • All formulas in Australia have to meet the same, strict, standard. Bearing that in mind if your baby doesn’t have any sensitivities there is not much difference between the cheapest and most expensive brand. I use SMA, one of the most budget friendly and my babies have never had an issue with it.

  • Previously used NAN but it’s quite high in iron and caused my son to be constipated.
We switched to karicare and it’s great. Also a lot cheaper

  • We’ve found the NAN brands to be particularly good and would recommend the Supreme Pro Premium. It comes in different levels depending on the age of bub. Mixed easily and well digested.
