Hello!

My 3 year old son loves his formula milk twice a day. But we are thinking of stopping giving him formula milk and replace with fresh milk. Any mums with similar experiences to share?

  • We were advised from 12 months to switch to cows milk. I think it is time to wean him out of it and drink milk like the adults, that way he is having a balanced diet and you can blend his mealtime with yours .

  • yes all my kids are on the real stuff lol

as long as his diet is good he doesn’t need the toddler milk and at this stage i would only give him a cup of it here and there as he doesn’t really need it anymore

  • Thanks all mums for your tips. Yes we are definitely switching him to full cream milk after finishing current tin of formula milk. He’s been drinking some fresh milk on certain days with breakfast cereal and afternoon tea as introduction.

  • He probably still likes the formula because it is fairly sweet. When you empty your current container don’t buy any more. If he refuses to drink ordinary milk, try UHT Milk. UHT milk doesn’t have to be refrigerated until it is opened. Some brands keep for longer than others. The better quality ones keep for 7 days in the fridge. The “generic” brand ones don’t keep for as long. The difference between “fresh” milk and UHT is that it is processed for longer at a much higher temperature. It is ideal when travelling too. UHT milk is also OK for cooking so if he refuses to drink it you don’t have to waste it.

  • I’d be stopping that formula ASAP. Fresh A2 milk or Jersey cow milk is far superior!

  • My son had formula until he was 3 and a half , but he was such a fussy eater .. Still is :-((

  • use real milk and a good diet! stopped my daughter on formula at 12 months and went for cows milk no issues! she has a good diet along with milk just turned 3 and she is extremely healthy!

  • Fresh milk will be cheaper for you’s plus you can get vitamin drops if your worried about lack of nutrition.

  • My son drank his formula milk til he was nearly 5 but I only kept it up because he wouldn’t eat enough variety otherwise and I was worried about his health.
