Hello!

My daughters birthday is in two weeks. There’s going to be older children, from 3- 15 years. I’m wanting healthier options. It’s in a park so it needs to be easy with no heating. I know fairy bread and chocolate crackles, but, I wanting other options too. We will be having BBQ meat, it’s more of when it’s being cooked, as there’s heaps of things for kids to do. But, let’s face it. Kids love to eat while at parties. Can anyone help me, please??

  • watermelon and other fruits are great, banana muffins are great too and if you use overripe bananas you wont need to add sugar

  • Cheese cubes, cut up sausages, boiled eggs, variety of nuts, veggie chips, roast chickpea and -broad beans. Cut up fruit / fruit skewers. Veggie pie’s, fritters veggies, meat, vegetarian options in puff pastry. Greek yoghurt with honey, served with fresh fruit etc. Homemade apple strudel, sweet potato brownie with raw chocolate avocado icing, so many healthier options possible.

  • Home made sausage rolls? Home made mince burgers

  • Chips, bics and dips. You could hear water on the BBQ for save lots or little boys. Salads. Kebabs, chicken ones, beef pork or vegetable ones.

  • Yes fruit salad cups, individual cups with veggie sticks and dip sound great!

  • What about a fruit platter, savoury scrolls, little sandwiches, pretzels.

  • I had my daughter’s first birthday at a park close to home. I cooked cheerios at home and brought them in an insulated container and we had mini hotdogs with sauce (and mustard for adults). You could make mini quiches in cupcake pans as they’re delicious hot or cold! Sandwiches are always winners! Homemade sausage rolls – Yum!

  • Fruit salad cups, individual cups with veggie sticks and dip, sushi/cold rolls, sandwiches.

  • Kids are so easy – lots of cut up fruit usually does the trick, and if you want to save yourself heaps of effort Coles or Woolies have the fruit platters already made.

  • Chocolate dipped bananas were a big hit at my sons 1st Birthday party. Fruit skewers are great. I also got a recipe off here for my daughters 1st Birthday party which was delicious, cheesecake strawberry bites!!

  • fruit salad
    banana pancakes
    sandwiches

  • kids love fruit these days, so maybe a platter of fruit, or fruit on bamboo sticks.

  • Create these little men using carrots, tomatoes, olives, celery. You could use cheese if you want..

  • Fruit kebabs, cheese squares, carrot sticks, cucumber etc with dip

  • Check out the “party food” section in the recipes here on MoMs too – some really good ideas!

  • Frogs in Jelly are always a winner with the kids. Generally kids wont be too fussed about savoury food, plenty of sweets and they’ll be happy.

  • For my children’s birthday parties we have fruit platters – both fresh fruit and dried fruit, (and/or fruit cut into shapes), dips and rice crackers etc . A serve of dip each in a plastic cup with carrot and celery sticks and bread sticks is popular (as they can hold it themselves and ‘double dip’ as much as they like :) ) We also buy a cask of water from the supermarket and sometimes a fruit juice “popper” per child as well. I made a carrot and pineapple cake for all my children’s 1st and 2nd birthdays that was popular with everyone. Pinterest has some amazing ideas too!

  • Fruit skewers are always popular with both kids and adults. Or if you don’t want to take the time threading the fruit onto a skewer you can have mini fruit-salads served in disposable cups with mini disposable forks (I’ve seen these sold in K-mart in WA).

  • Fruit platters or fruit stick kebabs!

  • Fruit kebabs, mini pizzas, potato gems, puff pastry roll ups, if including meat on the menu, then chicken nuggets and fish fingers are popular too.
