Head off to your local library together. There’s bound to be some reading material on these subjects there. And it’s also a great place to spend time together

I work in a book store and we have a children’s section dedicated to “issues”, such as grief, divorce, etc .I will see what we have and post some titles for you

If you have the time it can be effective to make your own story. Just use some pictures and photos and you can personalise the message you want to give your child. Sorry about your loss

the ABC shop has a fabtastic range of kids books dealing with all sorts of subjects. You can order online too

I read ‘Grandpa’ by John Burningham a few years ago and it was a good book that handled the topic quite sensitively.

Yes, there are a lot. Check out your local library – I know ours has heaps. There is one called “I Miss You” A first look at death, and also “I miss my pet”. “Wishes for one more day” is another about Grandparents.

Ive actually never seen a book to help explain this. All I can say is each person handles death different to each other. Show your emotions and remind them, its ok to be sad or angry – this is all a part of the grieving process and we all grieve different to the next. I tell my kids that Nanna is in Heaven, jumping in the clouds laughing and having a good time. One her Birthday and the day she was taken from us, we light a candle and we talk about it all the time. I think you explaining the way you believe is better than any book written, don’t you?

Sesame Street offer a range of good books and also a video series. Many aren’t available in Australia but can be ordered from the US.

My local library has a child section on that subject.
