Hello!

I kept smelling something like metwurst or jerky near our kitchen and finally found the source is the discovery garden! It appears to be the little pot that smells. Anyone else have this experience? What on earth is in the little pots to make them smell like that?

  • Oh wow…..I didnt have any of these but the smell would have sent me crazy

  • I think it’s because the pots were made to decompose and be planted directly into the garden.

  • I think that you’ll finds its mildew or mould that is growing on the cardboard pots, they are a good idea but not entirely practical. You can use old egg cartons for a similar result!

  • Ours have been outside so we don’t smell ours.

  • I’m not having any trouble with mine, but ours are sitting on a tray outside with plenty of space around each little pot

  • Actually we noticed that one we collected last week smelt a little like fertiliser – or something similarly stinky. Yet none of our other ones have any real smell to them.

  • I don’t smell anything funny.
Something totally different; I noticed some of the soil pods are expanding better then the other ones, or is it just me ?

  • We got an early weekend start to our gardening and have some of the plants. I cannot smell any aroma as described in your question.

  • No smell with ours. I have only herb ones. Unsure if that makes a difference.

  • Mine have all been fine and we have collected quite a few.perhaps if you got one that smells funny, it might have just been up next to something damp or with moisture like frozen food.

  • That’s interesting! I haven’t noticed any smell but I’m going to check now! I haven’t noticed any strong smells so hopefully ours is ok! I like having it in the kitchen!

  • I haven’t noticed a weird smell with the ones I’ve got so far.

  • I haven’t noticed a smell from them, but we only made ours up last night so will be interested to see if we get that smell too.

  • The smell hasn’t bothered me at all.

  • I haven’t noticed any on mine that I’m yet to plant

  • I am going to collect some this weekend. Thank you for letting us to know.

  • Interesting replies moms …thanks. Will make sure mine go out side.

  • Yes I walked past them yesterday and it really has s strong garden odour I will be moving them out of the living area

  • Think I will keep mine in the garage until we are ready to plant them.

  • Yes, definitely an odour – thought it was just the soil mixture. Reading the small print on the packet it states ‘avoid breathing in dust …”, bit of a concern ….
