Hello!

I had my tubes tied a few months ago, since then I have put on some weight around my abdomen which I have never had (except from being pregnant-which I’ve had 3 periods since so not pregnant). I started exercising, cut down on drinking milk/coffee/sugar (which when I have done this before lost 5 kgs without exercising or cutting out anything bar the milk/sugar) this time I have done the same and out 5kgs on. My youngest (of three) is nearly four and I’ve sat at around 75kgs since having him whereas I SHOULD be around 63kgs, now I’m close to 80kgs.

I have never had to worry about my weight whereas now I feel huge and uncomfortable. My diet has not changed as in I’m eating more rubbish than usual, in fact I’m eating better, drinking green tea, taking vitamins, exercising and I still look like I’m about 5-6 months pregnant. As soon as I eat anything my stomach bloats and looks bigger.

I have seen the GP and I’m going back again this coming week but they brush me off, so I’m keeping a food/exercise diary to show them. I was wondering if anyone has had their tubes tied and gotten fatter around the middle? The surgeon has also said there were no hormones added so it (my huge belly) shouldn’t be from the surgery. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • I wake up in the morning with a relatively flat belly, but by the end of the day I look pregnant. I just put it down to low abdominal muscle

  • I had one just 5 months ago, no weight gain for me but I also had gestational diabetes and lost close to 20kgs with it. Have you just finished breast feeding or anything like that? If your gp brushes you off find another one that actually listens to you

  • I had one at 25yo. I didn’t put on weight. Perhaps ask for a second opinion, and get an ultrasound on your tummy. You may have a growth in your womb – this happened to a gf of mine. Not life threatening, but weighed 8kg!!!

  • drink lots of water to flush it all out. it could just be normal. i never used to put on weight and then at one point, i really had to start trying to lose it lol. your body changes as you get older lol.

  • Oh dear, not really, you seem to be doing everything I would have suggested. I really can’t explain your dilemma, I know how it feels to not be able to lose weight though

  • Maybe some of that weight is muscle from the extra exercise that you are doing? I never go by the scales anymore, they are just numbers, but how do your clothes fit, are they looser, tighter or what. We all get a bit more around the middle as we age but I don’t see why having your tubes tied would make you put on weight. Maybe its your digestive system that is not behaving. I have started taking some pro-biotic capsules which have been a great help against bloating, maybe they could help you too. Good luck and keep on looking after yourself, its very important for all your family.

  • maybe you are stressing so your body is storing weight

  • I can relate ,sometimes it’s got to do with hormone changes ,try not to eat after 8 pm ,so not storing as fat while sleeping .

  • I had the tubal ligation when I had my 3rd C-section & apart from been a little more tender for a few weeks I managed to lose the excess baby weight in 6-12 months. I had to have a hysterectomy 10 years later & then I started having problems with my weight due to the lack of hormones.
