This is my all time dream to write and publish a book I had started writing a childrens book but stopped as I thought it was not good enough to be published

It’s been great reading the posts so far. I’d love to write a book, but who knows ….

I have written 3 children’s picture books and one autobiography. I have to say it is hard work and even harder to get published. Living in Australia we don’y have a lot of willing publishers. The bigger publishers tend to stick with authors they know and little publishing house are very picky who they invest in. What ever genre you wish to write in read a lot first to understand how the layout of books work. When you complete your manuscript and its polished ready to go start the hunt for publishers who publish that genre. be persistent and don’t give up, every author at some point receives rejection letters. Just keep trying!

My brother has written a book about his terrible childhood. I can’t wait to read it as we don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things

I’m with you Sam. I love to write and I always have a heap of ideas and stories on the go but unfortunately I lack writing ability so I write for enjoyment. Perhaps one day I will find a great writer who has writers block and join forces with them.

I have an eBook called ‘Exercises for Pregnant Women’ written based on research results put together to help pregnant women keeping fit during their pregnancy.
Start from gathering all the questions you have, find the experts for advice and the solutions, sort them in order, depends on the topic – usually a good length is 8,000-10,000 words, add images, get a ghost writer to refine the copy if you wish, and design a cover to represent the book. Voila!

Agree, most marketing for books is different now due to the internet and e-books. I’ve also noticed that a lot of published authors have an online presence – so they blog, release bits of their stories and get the word out that way. I think you have a lot more interest from traditional publishers if you have a fan-base online.

I think you need to determine whether you want to go paperback or hardback or an ebook. Ebooks are easier to publish

I have written tonnes of stories, but never had one published, nor tried. I just love writing!
