I had mine done at 33yo. Knew I wasn’t having any more children, I am now 48yo. Never a problem, and no periods WOO HOO

I think most doctors take into account your age, your health and the family you already have. My doctor recommended that I have my tubes tied due to the fact I had two pregnancies with severe pre-eclampsia and the risk to me and any more babies was far too high.
But I think when it comes down to it, it should be up to you.

If you’re 100% done, have a certain number of children already and meet age requirements there shouldn’t be an issue. Have friends who have had theirs tied

Hi, I had my tubal ligation with clips done 2 years ago after trying the mirena postnatal for my 4th child. The mirena was hell for me and I decided enough was enough. I spoke to my gp and said this is what I want done as soon as possible. And she referred me right then and there. They won’t hesitate to refer you if you sound absolutely certain. I had mine through the public hospital and it was about 3 months wait for the elective surgery. I was in theatre for 25 mins and that’s removing the mirena also. Recovery I was awake pretty fast and back home 3 hours later. Research which procedure you would prefer. I choose the clips as if I ever did change my mind it’s an easier reversal and costs approx $400-$1000 through a private clinic. They will ask you several times before surgery if you are certain you are done having children so be prepared.

Please, PLEASE do some research before you get them done. I had mine done almost 2 years ago, and the doctor never warned me of any of the problems that can arise afterwards. Look up Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. It is absolute HELL. I wish I’d never had it done! A reversal is not covered by Medicare too, so if you change your mind or have the awful problems I have, then you’re up for thousands just to feel normal again. It’s ruined my life, so please think about it very carefully. There are many women all over the world suffering from the same problems, and like me, they weren’t made aware of what could go wrong. I had no idea until it happened to me.

My sister in law had her 3rd child by caesarean . She had a bit of complex pregnancies in the past and it was the same hospital . same doctor . She was even allowed to pick the day of the birth only for her unique situation . The doctor said to her , well since we are going to do the caersaran and you are not going to have any more children , how about we tie your tubes as the same time . She said good idea , and went ahead with it . She said he gave her a bonus ( I think she means didn’t charge her for the extra work ). So that’s simple as a nutshell for her and never had any problems after that .

I spoke to a specialist about this and he recommended that my partner have the snip instead as with tubes there is a 1 in 1000 chance it will fail as compared to a 1 in 100,000 with the male. I still think its far odds as we are done having children (we have four), but it have me something to think about.

It is a decision that needs to be weighed up heavily and with the best advice possible.

The doctors in public hospitals used to tie your tubes if you were over 30 had 4 kids. I went to a clinic to get mine done and all that I had to do is have a counselling session and if they were satisfied that I wouldn’t change your mind they did it

I had my tubes tied when I decided that I am done having children. It was my decision and my doctor had to give me a small operation and at the same time she tied my tubes. She was in favour for the women to make up your own mind for your body. My husband did not want to have the snip anyway so I took the opportunity to do what’s best for me.

As long as you are sure that you don’t want to have any more children, the doctor will always ask you if you a sure about this, then there is no reason why you cant have your tubes tied. It your choice

I and my tubes removed totally after child number 3. The dr discussed it with both myself and my husband before the procedure. They
Idea behind the removal was based on new findings of cancer starting in the tubes. Depending on your dr they might talk about this option – although it is obviously not reversible.

Depends on age and health. I was referred by my gp and they refused and said to comeback when I’m 32 but I think every add is individual.

Many specialists are reluctant to do it before the age of 30. After that it is elective surgery. I am considering it after this last baby as i will be 38 and this will be my last child.
