Hello!

Hi mums !!

Looking for some advice, I have a 20 month old toddler. I feel like I’ve got her breakfast lunch and dinner down pat in terms of healthy options. I’m stuck on snacks! Especially when going out or something quick in a hurry.
Please if anyone is willing to share some quick healthy snacks!?

  • Things like Kelloggs Fruit bites, jatz & crackers are always easy. Rice or Corn cakes. Small fruits like berries & grapes. Cheese sticks and slices. Little packets of sultanas and dried fruits can stay in your bag ready to go. Little ready tubs of fruit like sliced peaches are easy too

  • There are so many quick and easy options on the market these days. If you are happy with processed options, go down the health food aisle and you will find lots. Other than that, carrot sticks and hummus, rice or corn cakes with vegemite or even make up some snack balls (or buy at the supermarket). Simple fruits are also great on the go if your child likes apples, they are great and travel well!

  • Yoghurt is handy and can be portable too. You can also make yoghurt chips. Banana chips are good, but read the dietary advice as I found some brands were as high as 40% sugar while other brands had none. Fruit and vegie sticks are always good. Cheese is great; rice crackers are ok for sometimes.

  • Another thing worth mentioning is to try and change up the options to help your child get exposed to different tastes and textures.
So many parents say their kids won’t eat pumpkin or seafood or mushrooms etc but it’s mainly because they haven’t been exposed to them. Avoid a picky eater by letting them try variety of foods

  • I love making ‘picky bits’ for my toddler. Its like baby charcuterie. Fruits like strawberries, watermelon, dried currants cut up to their ability. Cucumber, cheese, corn thins, Cheerios. At home I leave a plate on his table to eat at his leisure (max 2 hours for cut veggies and fruit) or in a container with sections for on the go. I also love Recipe Tin Eats morning glory muffins. Prep is easy, bakes for 25 mins, and you have a great on the go snack. I reduce the sugar to 70g and it has a great crumb

  • That’s a great question! It’s so helpful to see all the great ideas here. Finding healthy snacks that kids will actually eat can be a challenge. A good tip is to think about a mix of different textures and flavors, like soft cheese sticks, a few berries, or a handful of cut-up veggies. Keeping a variety of options on hand is key!

  • Soft cheese sticks in ready to go wrapping, chopped fruit. Little packets or containers of sultanas or dried fruits. Rice cakes or crackers. Home cooked mini savory muffins. Our kids always loved when I counted out their berries and snacks to them and they eventually counted along with me, learning early.

  • Well done mumma, meal times are hard! It was one of my biggest struggles. I would suggest preparing ready to go snacks in the fridge, all chopped and ready to consume, that way, it’s always on hand. Things like chopped up fruit, veg sticks (cut and prepared safely for babies), and even things like yoghurt – not the sugary ones. For other options that arent refrigerated, my girls used to love biscuits, yum yum biscuits etc.

  • My grandson loves this snack from Table of Plenty Rice Cakes they are a good portion size and you find them in the health food isle. I now actually buy them for myself as I have grown to love them too haha but they are a little more expensive then your junk snack.

  • I think it’s so great that you are seeking healthy snacks! So many parents are resorting to unhealthy pre packaged foods which are probably doing more harm than good. We opted for cut up fruit such as banana and pear, rice cakes with avocado or peanut butter, soft steamed veggies (carrot sticks, zucchini sticks) and soft cheese sticks
