Hello!

My 12 year old daughter has painful chilblains on her toes. We have just got her some ointment from the chemist but any info on natural remedies or anything anyone else has found to work to heal them and prevent them happening again, would be most appreciated.

  • How is it going? ;/

  • I would talk to a podiatrist if I was you

  • Maybe google how u get them? So u can try prevent it

  • i used to get chilblains when i was a kid, it was from walking to the school bus in the frost then sitting them near a heater to warm them up, they occur if you heat up that area too quick, and yes the remedy was while i was taking a shower i was told to pee on my feet, and yes they did clear up, i know it sound disgusting and we all tell our children not to pee in the bath, shower, or pool ect, but the exception to the shower is if you are suffering with chilblains.

  • I was always told that u get them from sitting too close to the heater! Not sure if that correct or if my mum didn’t want me that close to the heater.

  • I hope some of the things suggested here help, and they get better for her soon.

  • Hope you found a solution to the problem with all the useful advice

  • See a doctor he can recommend something

  • I’ve heard of the urine remedy too, never tried it but if I had chilblains I’d probably give it a go!

  • soaking in warm salt water

  • urine? really? omg that sounds so odd!

  • I no urine is meant to be very good for chilblains, well so my nan told me. My nan used to swear that wearing thick socks aides as well as it keeps the feet warm. If things don’t improve I suggest taking her to the doctors, she is rather young for chillblains I’d say.

  • I get them still & they drive me crazy. but not a lot you can do for them unfortunately.

  • I had chilblains and apparently they were caused by warming my freezing fingers too fast holding a hot cup of coffee!

  • Thanks everyone. They have gone with the ointment we and also keeping her feet warm. She had been going out to the trampoline in bare feet and not warming them up or drying them properly! Hopefully she wont get them again now she knows how painful they are, but we have some great ways to prevent them and also lots of remedies to try now thanks :)

  • I suggest seeing a Naturopath, they have some wonderful natural remedies.

  • try to keep them warm and do gentle exercises for circulation- sea salt works wonders. dissolve in a bucket in warm water.

  • I would see a doctor as there might be some quick and easy options to help out

  • Keep her feet warm and don’t change the temperature too quickly (ie get into a hot bath with cold feet!) I get them in winter and warm slippers seems to help! good luck!
