Forum How do I get maximum life out of Camellia flowers in vases?

We have a couple of huge Camellia trees/bushes which are starting to produce an enormous amount of flowers. I love to have fresh flowers in the house, but no matter what I do to the water, flowers rarely last more than a day or two before dropping from their stems, or starting to turn brown. I’ve tried putting an aspirin in the water, and lemonade, and a bit of sugar, and changing the water every day, but no success. Do any Mums have any advice on what I can do to help flowers to last longer?

  • You could try snipping the bottom of the flowers at an angle. And put a tiny bit of bleach in the water. Yes, bleach! I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it, but I’m sure it makes the flowers last longer

  • Someone told me a teaspoon of bleach in the water, no idea if it actually works.

  • I love fresh flowers, and it’s so nice to have them around the house. But there’s got to be a way to make the flowers last longer. All I’ve got to do is find out how.

  • I always thought they lasted longer than this, maybe keep them in a warm spot inside the hom to help
