Hello!

We recently got a free wooden sandpit frame given to us & over the past few months I have noticed the ants have made nests in the corners of the wooden frame. I have tried Ant Rid, the DIY Mortein outdoor spray but they have not seem to make a difference. I have also noticed the ants have a nest in the base of the poles of the swing set. Just wondering, has anyone else had this issue with ants before & what did you try/works? How do I get rid of ants on outdoor play equipment?

  • Talcum powder, they do not like it on their little feet, I used ant rid but found my child chewing on the container that it was in because it is honey based. but homebrand talcum powder on their tracks will annoy them and they will eventually go away or find someone else to annoy, also make sure that no foods are eaten in the area or sugary drinks spilt.

  • Get a professional in to get it sprayed, it works amazing! It is a bit more expensive but is worth it!

  • Talcum powder deters them

  • Im going to take in all the answers to this question because i have a massive problem with ants everywhere and nothing seems to work at all.

  • I haven’t had this but good luck, it would suck, I have them in the bricks of my house, getting proffessions to come deal with I for me.

  • I truly believe that ants are building a resistence for all types of deterrants as I have a massive infestation of ants on my front pathway and gate. I have used plenty of ant sand products and they tend to work for a little while but then they come back. I hope you resolve it with some of the solutions others have offered. i’m going to try looking for that disharmonious earth product and give that a go.

  • i used to have this problem where we used to live. we tried everything, even proffessional pest control, but it would initially work and then within a week to a month, they were back. it sucked when they were in the house and when your electrical stuff dies and you look inside and there is an ant infestation, it drives you insane!

  • We use a solution of peppermint oil in a spray bottle to keep insects of our play equipment, I also regularly wash the area down with the hose and find this deters them from nesting there (well no I lie, every now and then I give the kids the hose and let them run wild!)

  • Thanks for asking this question; have a similar problem and am interested in the answers. They are very determined ants!

  • Disharmonious Earth, you can buy very inexpensively on line. Just type the name of product and read the information and order on line. It is great as you will see for many uses.

  • Ants are the bane of my existence, I’m sure I’m living on the top of the queen’s castle… I don’t have any ideas but I’m certainly going to try the talcum powder suggestion.

  • If you can find where the nest they are coming from, keep your children and pets away from it and tip turpentine or very hot water down the hole. To stop them going further into equipment you can use talcum powder they hate walking across or on it as it is slippery. Even spraying with Professional Spray (Mortein or Defender are 2 brands that I know of) once you have the problem under control some companies instruct that you should re-do it every 3 months. I have lived here for 2 years and used to use aerosol sprays on the poles of my clothes line. I also did the joins where screws, nuts etc are. Regardless, the spiders appear on the ends and on the wire every day. I will later today trying the Professional Spray which is in a bottle and has a tube with spray nozzle attached.
