Hello!

My 3 year old daughter has been toilet trained for awhile but lately she won’t stop wetting herself and her bed. She won’t tell me when she has wet herself and it doesn’t even seem to bother her. I’ve tried constantly taking her to the toilet but she still does it. Please I would love some suggestions on what I can do to help her stop doing it.

  • Would love an update…..how did you get on?

  • It’s frustrating but sometimes they just take time.

  • Chat to her and see whats going on, see if there are any underlying issues etc, that she may be concerned about, attention seeking etc.

  • Is there any underlying issues about with family, friends, daycare? Sometimes this may trigger this I have found with they are not settled/worried in life.

  • My 3 year old started weeing her pants a few months back we had undies with her favourite characters on it and I told her not to wee on them they didn’t like it and didn’t get mad at her for having accidents tried to be understanding I’d sat things like I understand sometimes we can’t make the toilet Let’s clean this up together she stopped after a month or 2 and very rarely will have an accident now

  • Three is still young. Regression with wetting through the night is not uncommon. It’s okay to just try again. Reset as many times as she and you need to. She will get there.

  • She is still small. It will take time. But don’t give up.

  • My 3 year old was also doing well as he was toilet trained. Our neighbour started arguments with us and constant screaming and police was involved. My son started wetting his bed and also other problems occurred so we moved house. He is much better still a bit scared from the door knocking but bed wetting has stopped. We didn’t put pull ups so he won’t get use to it our pharmacy has bed wetting sheet that we used instead. Hope this helps good luck.

  • So if you take it several times at nighttime to the toilet and she still does it it may be something that need a doctor assessment, unless she drinks loooots of fluids that she can’t hold it even though you take her to the toilet a few times..

  • Interesting that she was toilet trained and now she’s wetting the bed. Perhaps there is something else going on. Just be patient and try pull ups or something for the night.

  • 3yrs is still young. I would probably put her in a pull up overnight and praise her every time the pull up is dry

  • Could she be stressed about something?
Sometimes kids can go backwards if they’re stressed.

  • My grandson is 5 and still wets the bed. I was 12 when I stopped wetting the bed. We all progress at different rates

  • Please get a referral to a nephrologist for your daughter. I was trained by 15 months but then started being incontinent day and night. I am now 70, so a lot of what was done to me in the Children’s Hospital would no longer be done but eventually they realised that I had one deformed kidney which they eventually removed. I have had numerous kidney and bladder infections particularly prior to having the kidney removed. I am fortunate that I have a kink in the ureter in my good kidney which has halted infections getting to my kidney usually just staying in my bladder but this can cause incontinence as well.

  • This child needs a medical assessment.

  • A child of 3 years old may not have grasped that sitting on a potty or a toilet is that important. Can I suggest that the mother just put her in a nappy and ignore the toilet training for a little while. Maybe a week or two could work. Don’t worry mum, your 3 year old will be happy to have clean pants eventually. No big deal.

  • We had similar thing. My daughter was toilet trained and then started to wetting herself during the night as she started to sleep thru the nights and couldn’t feel it…I was trying to waking her up….carrying her asleep to the toilet but still didn’t helped.after a month i gave up and I put her again in nappies for the night and after month or so she again started to feel when she needs to go to the toilet.
