Hello!

I’ve just started working full time from being part time for over 7 months (prior mat leave for 3plus years) how do you f/t mummas stay sane and get everything done at home and work?

  • Delegate: If you can, share the load with your partner or older kids. Even little ones can pitch in by tidying up their toys or setting the table. It’s all about teamwork and not trying to do it all on your own.

Set Boundaries at Work: It can be tempting to overcommit, but it’s okay to set limits at work. Use your lunch breaks to recharge and don’t be afraid to ask for help when things get too busy.

  • It can be super tricky.
We have 5 children under 11
So a mix of school aged, toddler & baby.
Plan ahead, organise what you can when you can, make lists of things that need to be done and tick them off.
Set clothes out the night before for the next morning. I find washing every day and getting the kitchen and house cleaned every day much less stressful rather then letting it build up until the weekend but that’s a personal choice. Meal plan – cook & freeze meals

  • I admire you. It obviously helps to have a good support system although I realise this is not always the case for everyone.

  • Right now being in Victoria with the stage 4 restrictions, it is VERY VERY HARD! Just counting down the days really. But before then, if you have a good routine it works very well indeed :)

  • I’ve just gone back to full time work after 17 years I’m lurking on this thread for tips too :)

  • Need a good support network and organisational skills.

  • Along with using planners; everyone needs to help and be allocated roles. Responsibility and chores of course need to be age appropriate.

  • I plan and organise absolutely everything which includes ‘me time’. Planners for the year, month, week, day, menu, chores etc are an essential tool. I schedule in time for everything; work, chores, family time, hobbies etc. Time management is key to staying on task and getting things done and having ‘me time’.

  • I try and meal plan so dinner time is easy – choosing easy mid week meals that don’t take forever to make and we have organised share rides for kids sports so I’m not running around every night of the week doing after school activities. Not only does that help me, but the other families that are involved as I take their kids to some activities, giving them a break.

I think also don’t sweat the small stuff. A messy house is OK if you don’t feel up to tidying. And get everyone involved in helping out. We’ve started a 5 minute tidy blitz after dinner. Put some music on, a timer and just tidy the main kitchen/dining/living area.

  • Couldn’t agree more, i praise all working mummas. It’s hard but you get it done

  • You just do it because where mum’s and thats what we have to do.

  • Find a routine that works for you – it really helps.

  • Always make a list and try to stick to it. Hubby needs to do 50 per cent also makes life easier. Arrange one night for take away to take the pressure off having to prepare meals every night. It is exhausting but can be done. Good luck!

  • It is definitely a struggle and you do need to get organised however a to do list throughout the day helps as well as getting hubby or partner to help as well. You will be exhausted at the end of the day and yes do ask for help where you can.

  • You have to be organised to make it work and you have to give jobs to the kids that is how I managed. My weekends I ran kids to sport shopping washed clothes changed sheets cooked biscuits cakes for lunches in the week cleaned the house also make your husband help and when my kids got older I made them get washing in. I found once I got up in the mornings put a load of washing on I used to iron what ever came off the line or I wouldn’t of done it as kids had uniforms and I did but I used to hang mine out a bit wet and I sometimes didn’t have to iron. Good luck

  • I managed it but it is exhausting!

  • its a struggle. A routine helps. And don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. You will need it. Best of luck

  • Look over the next day’s to-do list and divide the schedule, determining which parent gets the kids dressed, buys necessary groceries, and cooks the meals.
